I knew that part would make someone mad. I didn't write it, nor have I ever participated. I'm guessing there probably are bikes that go from the $500-$3k range or maybe a little more but from my understanding most of the up-tights don't participate

First let me swear my allegiance to Louisville... my 40272 ass tattoo, my 502 representin hoodie, my 8a loving, shakin shelia noise pollutin, louisville is for lovers listening...

Yup, made in through a few lines before I just skimmed. I think cycle cross style alley cat would be fun. Some folks I know did a mini bike cross race late night in BC and said it was great fun. I like Louisville's thinking, I mean the bike thru beer tent at the cyclecross races is a great idea!

Here in lex we do get a good showing of the serious riders with expensive bikes, etc at our races. I have talked to other racers who never do any of our races but race everything else. The response I received was, "not until you get an insurance policy."

Dunno, glad to see differing cycle communities trying new things. I know I love to watch cyclecross, drink beer, ring my cow bell, and talk some shit.

no, I'm not mad, I was just underscoring the hypocritical nature of that statement.

There's just as much posturing, flock-following, trendiness and overall lameness in the world of sanctioned cycling events as there is in a bunch of kids in whatever podunk town USA adopting "bike messenger culture" (for lack of a better term).

Everyone thinks they're doing something new and exciting and trailblazing when they're actually not... so why not just talk about what it is for what it is? No need to revert to easy, overused stereotypes and questioning other consenting adults' sanity.

One could just as easily question the sanity of "regular, sane" folks who spend $4,000 on carbon Zipp discs to give them some sort of advantage running up hills and racing through muck.

Sounds like a bunch of old rich cyclists wanting to have an alleycat but their wives wont let them because they might get hurt.

And it sounds like I don't have enough specialized shit to participate in this. You know, specialized pint glass for the beer lap, specialized ringtone on my black berry, specialized tattoo where no one can see it, $4000 specialized cross bike that I only train on, $4000 specialized cross bike that I only race on and happens to be identical to the one I train on, etc.

And yet another comment about tight jeans and fixed gears. I mean why cant people realize that some of us were commuting on fixed gear years ago before bikes were even considered cool?

Oh wait, are they giving away specialized tshirts or anything to the last place finisher? if so, i'm in!

Thing is, I have no hate for Louisville. Graduated from UofL even.
