For anyone interested in volunteering some time, this would be a good opportunity to help show some gratitude and good-will toward the park and neighborhood that is home to Lexington Bike Polo:
Quote: | To those with an interest in Coolavin Park:
A group of volunteers will be doing a neighborhood clean-up this
Saturday from 10am-2pm at Coolavin Park. Hot dogs and hamburgers will
be provided for lunch, so I hope to be able to give them a rough
estimate of any neighborhood persons planning to attend. Please pass
the word along to those that you think would be interested in helping.
Below is an excerpt from the e-mail sent from the Supervisor of Park
Maintenance.
Thanks!
Sarah Brown
First District Council Assistant
---------------
I propose that the entire area on the railroad side of the fence be
cleared of honeysuckle, bushes, trash, and debris. There is a large
church volunteer event (Serve The City) taking place on Saturday,
October 4th, and we will make Coolivan Park one of the sites for these
volunteers to assist. Additionally, Parks will supply manpower and
equipment.
If we can get assistance from the railroad company, and from the
surrounding residents or neighborhood association, we could literally
clean up this entire area in one day.
Once the cleanup is complete we will make appropriate fence repairs.
Thanks,
Tim

More than 90 volunteers spent Saturday morning cleaning up an overgrown area adjacent to Coolvin Park in Lexington. Some 13 tons of trash, brush and debris were removed from the site. Volunteers included faith group members working as part of the “Serve the City” initiative, members of the Lexington Police Department, and players from the bicycle polo league. Workers from the Division of Parks and Recreation managed the clean-up teams and assisted with heavy brush removal. |

Wow... 13 tons. That's a lot of shit to be growing and living alongside a fence.
There were 5 polo players total helping out that morning. I bet we had more volunteers than the Lexington Police did. _________________ ------------[] O |
