Recently me and my gal made the trip up to lexington for the Bike prom. It was a lot of fun but it made both of us a little ashamed for our town of Berea. Lexington provided a good juxtaposition for Berea. I want to share some frustrations and planing going on in Berea right now.

An advocacy group in Berea has started campaigning for bike lanes in the city and host a critical mass (the next mass is tomorrow at 5- we meet at Berea Coffee and tea) for directions call (859) 625-8886. I know that this comes with little notice but we kinda need all the help we can get. After a perfunctory city counsel meetings (where we were lectured about cyclists breaking the law- which I can only conclude is reaffirmed daily by your newspaper the Herald Leaders) we finally have a meeting with an advisory committee to go over plans for a six mile bike lane.
Even though Berea is on the trans-america trail it is an incredibly unfriendly place to ride a bike. Every day there is new mention of harrassment to a cyclist by an automobile. Recently a cyclist was hit by a car- one of his front teeth was knocked out and he was severely concussed- the police responded by giving him a breathalizer test (which he passed and bleed all over) the police report (which I read because the whole thing seemed made up) mentions giving the cyclist a breathalizer but does not mention giving the driver (who was, in the same report, at fault) a DUI test. Berea is a dry town anyway though.
If you can't make it this month there is plans and funds being raised for a Critical Halloween mass.

The proposial for the bike lane is pretty decent but does need a bit of looking over. If anyone would like to see what we have done then feel free to email me and ask for details.
Also there is a bomb-ass three wheel bicycle for sale $150. My next door neighbor has it (I'm forbidden to buy another bike). I know this bike can hold the weight of a rider and a keg. Ultimate skrapper bike.
