Ok, so I know we have some time left, but it's important that we use this time to assemble Lexington's muscle in the best way possible so we can make a strong showing in Chicago.
For today and Sunday, we need to show up, pair off in teams, and play a small tournament so we can try out some player combinations and see what works. The teams that are going need to play together in the coming weeks in order to work up a cohesive game. We're also going to need to shoot a training montage, and set it to some rad music. Last, we need serious commitments from those going, sworn statements that nothing short of an act of a vengeful god will keep them from coming. These people should register as soon as possible.
So far myself, Chris, and Pat have formed a team. If you can't say for sure whether or not you are going very soon, expect to sign up as a single in Chicago.
Alright Lexington, it's time to get serious, I'll see you on the polo court. _________________ "AK'll light up your chest like ET."

ok guys and gals... much was discussed at Al's tonight concerning the trip to Chicago, but we still have a lot of figuring out to do. What we came up with, was a tentative roster of people who are going. If you're name is in bold, it means I have your $30 registration fee (I'm collecting the money, so I will be the one who sends our collective registration). If there is an asterisk beside your name, it means you're a "maybe"... so check back here and please let me know when you can say with confidence that you're either IN or OUT. Also, let us know if you plan on playing, or just going up for support.
Here's the list so far. Some names have been grouped into pre-formed teams:
Honkey Ballerz
Shane Tedder
Pat the Welder
Brad Flowers (out due to injury)
Team #2
Chris Simpson
Kyle
Drew Combs
Team #3
Grant
Kevin
me (brian)
Tiffany
Andy S.
Matt Burton
Jakub*
Another thing... while we only have one fully-formed team thus far, we definitely have enough players to register three teams, possibly four. I can go ahead and pay for three teams, and if we get more solid info on the other folks who are going, we'll sign up four. Here's the thing, the registration website is wanting each team to have a team name, not just your city - as well as the roster of names for each team. This info, once collected, will be posted on the Chicago Bike Polo website in order to help with the bracketing and organizing of the tournament. So.... we need to get these teams organized, come up with some shitty names, and get us all registered!
Let's do this, people! Lexington is going to hit Chicago strong with a crew... so let's do it quick! _________________ ------------[] O

Also, another thing to consider as far as getting around Chicago... the park where the tournament is going to be is about 6.5 miles due east from the heart of downtown and the lakefront. Depending on where everyone stays and what everyone wants to do in the downtime, that's a haul for low-geared polo bikes. We may need to consider transporting all the bikes down to the park in our vehicles, and then using the park as a rallying point for everything... it's really not all that close to downtown or anything. _________________ ------------[] O |

Bryant and Britney are going just to watch. Also, I don't think Burton is planning on playing. Lame. _________________ T$ |

word over on the League of Bike Polo forums is that there will be 3 courts in use during the NACCC tourney. Each court is essentially two tennis courts side-by-side, so that means we'll be playing on a court that is roughly half the size of the one we're used to, since Coolavin is (was) four tennis courts.
Maybe on Sunday or Monday we can attempt to practice the short game? _________________ ------------[] O |

more info...
I asked around about registration, seeing as we have a lot of commitments for going, but we don't have all of our team rosters worked out quite yet. This is what Ben from ChicagoBikePolo.com replied:
Quote: | Take a second and work out your teams and then register. If it's just going to be impossible to account for all four teams then register as many full teams as you can and register everyone else as a single. We're creating teams out of that list as well which will also help. |
So, it looks like we need to get going with forming our teams before we register. As it stands, we still only have the one fully-formed team of Chris, Pat and Kyle. If it turns out we don't have exactly the amount of players to form full teams, would anyone from Lexington who's not on a team be willing to register as a single and get grouped into a random team, as suggested by Ben? These are things we should be thinking about and making decisions on.... _________________ ------------[] O |

i'm really up for playing with anyone, but i'd prefer playing with some fellow lexintonians. I feel like lexington should totally represent with its best teams, but we also need to keep in mind the fact that each team should also be able to be competitive with teams from other cities. i know its not up to me to pick teams, but i'm confident that we can make this happen. barring grant, alex and kevin go, we could have 4 solid, kick ass teams. if not, things may get a little tricky. I've also more than likely got a place for a number of people to stay as long as we act civilized and clean up after ourselves. more on that to come. _________________ pterodactyl bike gang for life! |

Drew, you would be the hero of this trip for sure if that deal comes through... that would be awesome, and we're all pretty well behaved. Well, except for Chris. _________________ ------------[] O |

so how many people still don't have anywhere to stay? i've contacted my friend in chicago, but i'm thinking the limit should probably be 8 or so. I don't know how big her apartment is, and i know we aren't opposed to sleeping on the floor but if I could get a head count of those who do not have anywhere to stay yet, that would be great. see you on the polo court! _________________ pterodactyl bike gang for life! |
