well, unless it dries up quite a bit before then, the field is in really bad shape right now. We talked a lot yesterday about doing something, or offering to reseed the field soon.
yesterday was soft, soggy and slow. the far end was like a sponge.
I think the time has come to find another pitch to play on for a while until our home court gets reconditioned. perhaps after the polo battle on Saturday? |

I always thought Coolavin Park would be a good place to play. I have not been there in a while but last time I was there the tennis courts did not have nets and the fields looked like they would work.
Just a thought.
Or if we can find a contained parking lot. Some place like a school with a small parking lot that has curbs. I think we need to be careful about a place like this and the amount of beer we usually consume matches |

Nowadays they use it as the intermural soccer field. If that one's being used you could always got to eh fields behind the Johnson Center right at the corner of Cooper and University. |

What about the infield of the short track that we ride on Upper between 5th and 6th.
Or using Greg's map go to corner of Hart and Cassidy there is a good size parking lot or they also have a track that we could play on the infield.
There is also Eaton Park, back parking lot of the Dillards on Richmond rd or even the park back there.
Just ideas |

there's an asphalt b-ball court there right in the middle too, remember? Might be weird going from a small amount of grass, to paved, then back to grass...

I've scoped this one out before... it's not too bad. Slightly rougher than Woodland, but it is big and flat. the bad thing is, one side of the track is a hill that goes down, so we'd need to chase the ball all the time.

Ecton Park is somewhere I've never really gone to check out... I remember there being lots of paved sidewalk that runs throughout the park (like Woodland) so it would be a matter of finding a large enough flat area between the sidewalks to play. |

id think theyd kick you off intermural fields pretty quick with bikes on them, but what about masterson station? plenty of field out there, and the hockeyrink for a change of pace, plus bike lanes pretty much all the way from downtown |

we have played at Masterson. Several times. The roller hockey courts are excellent for hard-court polo.
The reality is that the distance away (I know it's not far, and there are bike lanes), but on a low-geared, or no-geared junker polo bike the ride out there is not all that much fun, and I think it really would keep the weekly attendance lower than normal.
what we're looking for, ideally, is a couple of new options for weekly play. When the days get longer, bi-weekly. This means a centrally located grass or hard court that is easily accessible, and where we won't get hassled. |

We use to play soccer there too and though we only did it a few times it was never an issue.
Further back in that neighborhood is Christ the King Church - they have huge parking lots and some larger green spaces - Romany & Cochran.
These alt locations my not provide beer friendly alternatives to woodland.
As Brian said it would be good to have several alternatives that we could rotate around to in an effort to minimize our impact. It seems that rotating in some time on hard courts would offer us options when the pitch is soggy and vulnerable in the the winter & spring. _________________ "The path of least resistance is what makes the river crooked!” - Utah Phillips |

yeah, that's the place Tim and I both mentioned above - Hart Rd. and Cassidy... the small track has a large flat field inside it that would make a nice spot to play.
Greg, I've scoped out Christ the King before and that field where the kids play soccer is rough as shit... it's really bumpy. They do have nice big parking lots though... but we may not be welcome to play there. |

A good alternative for todays match would be the outfield of the ball diamond @ woodland. I think if we do another days worth of damage to our usual area any time soon, we will probably be facing more opposition than a schizophrenic, dog walking, woodland park crusader.

Yeah we can try that spot and see. The usual pitch had a small frozen pond in the middle of it yesterday. It is torn up beyond use - there are dog tracks, bike tracks and the like running through the mud.
We might be able to squeeze a tight field out of the area on the other side of the footdown tree and the skatepark.
We'll figure it out today but will have to come up with an alternate spot starting next week. _________________ "The path of least resistance is what makes the river crooked!” - Utah Phillips |

There is a nice field up woodland avenue before it makes the hard right at the library. The apartment on the left side of the road have a large athletic field where international student play cricket. There is also a basket ball court there so we could have a grass game and a hard court game going at the same time. I guess we would need more mallets though. Good luck with the st. louis folks today. I will be out of town |

why not in the skatepark? the games could start with the ball on the pyramid and foot down dudes have to drop in the mini ramp. |
