I haven't had much experience with cops when I ride, but are they usually strict about riding the wrong way and running red lights? I've run reds only to realize that there was a cop sitting on the other side of the intersection, but so far I've never been stopped, probably because they think it's not worth it to turn around and chase me down.

If anyone has been stopped, what was it for and what penalty did they slap on you?

I was stopped one night/morning after running two stop signs by the stadium. They cops were nice and just told me to follow the same laws as cars. That begs, so why when I share the road do they not share back?

Sara and I were stopped by a cop earlier this Summer for running the light at Elm Tree and Main St. Traffic was clear, and I thought we were doing a somewhat good deed by moving on so that the cars behind us could move up to the sensor and get their light, but the cop didn't see it that way... he gave us a verbal warning and rode off.

I think Chris Simpson has a good story about being pulled over and getting ticketed...

In all fairness, we should be stopping when we are supposed to... but I'm not above breaking that rule from time to time... it just happens. We're not all perfectly behaved cyclists, just like not all drivers drive like they should... in fact, most don't.

i have had many uk cops shake their finger at me for not coming to a complete stop at the 4 way in the back of ukmc....i am guilty of the yield at stop signs. strangly it is andrew who has been hit by cars and not myself. i do take full responsability for my actions, but many times in campus i have been almost taken out by a bike crossing off a sidewalk into the street. why with so many bike lanes are people riding on the sidewalk? fear of cars?

what about during allleycats? Do cops ever say anything when there are tons of cyclists around, most of whom aren't necessarily obeying traffic laws.

Never had a problem with cops, I'd say just as long as you don't cause a problem for motorists it should be fine.

Riding a bicycle on the sidewalk makes you 66% more likely to be involved in a fatal accident. That's what intellectuals call a statistic, so it HAS to be true!

I made a very illegal left on red @ 4am the other day before realizing the lone car sitting across from me was a cop. He didn't even flinch.

a scenerio;
well i was was ridin' with a friend down main after some cielito in front of the main rose "urban" lofts...looked left to right no traffic and decided to breeze thru yet another red light go (no pun intended) two lanes over the cherries pop and was pulled over from the bike lane(should have looked over the shoulder)...officer B.A. Riley was totally rude and demanded my id so i tried to be nice and gave my id to the officer...he ran it and much to my dismay i had not payed a speeding ticket = bench warrent (damn you al green concert)...long story short i went to jail...frownie face...they tried to impound my bike but my friend rolled thru and they let him ghostride it as if the ticket + fee's weren't enough...the lessons that i learned from this are as followed.
a)it takes a really long time for a officer to charge you with (1) bicyclist to obey traffic laws.
b)pay your f'n traffic citation('s)
c)i am a idiot
d)always and i mean always.look.i mean stop at traffic lights..hehe
