Tweed Ride
Join fellow Lexington cyclists on a festive, leisurely jaunt 'round the town!
Saturday, March 13th at 2:00pm
(following the St. Patrick's Day Parade)
gather for the start at The SideBar, across from the Courthouse Plaza.
Just what is a Tweed Ride, you might ask? Well, for starters "tweed rides" have been recently popping up in cities all over the world, from London to Boston to San Francisco. The idea of a "Tweed Ride" hearkens back to an era of genteel sophistication and civility; when bicycles were the preferred means of transportation that empowered women and men alike to venture forth into society. Riders sport a look and style that evoke a time when things moved at a slower pace; when a refreshing cup of tea after a smashing game of badminton on the lawn was the order of the day. All things dapper, vintage and mustachioed are encouraged!
Our ride will assemble in front of the SideBar at approx. 2pm *following the St. Patrick's Day Parade. Riders are encouraged to mingle freely before the start, taking advantage of the fine beverage fare available at The SideBar. Following our orderly departure, we will saunter forth at a leisurely pace throughout downtown Lexington's most scenic and historic areas, with TWO recreational rest stops along the route. At the two stops, participants are encouraged to bring any and all manner of civil entertainment; from picnic blankets and wine bottles, to croquet and bocce. Each rest stop will be approx. 30 minutes, with the ride resuming along the designated route to the next stop.
Our journey will end at Lynagh's, where even more fun and merriment is encouraged.
This ride is FREE to all participants. Prizes will be awarded for the following categories:
Most Dapper Chap
Sassiest Lass
Most Stylish Steed (classiest bike)
Most Marvelous Mustache ...and more!
prizes awarded will be selected from Velo Orange, purveyors of fine cycling goods.
*riders are encouraged to join in on Lexrides.com's St. Patrick's Day parade entry, which will line up along Midland Ave at 12:30pm, to show off our bikes and our Tweed Run attire for the crowds!

For those who want to also take part in the St. Patrick's Day Parade beforehand, here is the info:
Parade line up: 12:30pm along Midland Ave.
Parade start: 1:00pm
Parade route runs from Midland Ave. to S. Upper St, where it will turn left and end at the CentrePit Pasture and Horsey Breeding Grounds.

It would be really cool if as many people as possible could join in for the Parade AND the Tweed Ride, as the look and feel of the Tweed Ride will go along well with the parade / St. Patty's Day festivities, and of course, we'll have a better showing for our parade entry!

Not sure if Robert has finalized the entire route just yet, but in talking with him about the proposed route, I'd say definitely less than 10 miles. The route will likely be something similar to the Bike Lexington route, but more meandering.

Good Day Comrades,
Lexington's first Tweed Ride is upon us. I encourage each and every one of you to join us at 12:30 to line up and participate in the St. Patrick's Day Parade and Tweed Ride. It's hard to tell exactly what the weather is going to do, but rain or shine, this will be a splendid afternoon.
After some milling about at the Side Bar, we will embark at two-ish for a ramble down and around historic Lexington's streets, lanes and alleyways. We will wind around downtown then visit Hamilton, Gratz, Bellcourt, Mentelle, and Ashland parks.
If you have a thermos and favorite drinking vessel, bring it along with a snack if you wish. There will be spiced tea and perhaps some lawn games at Ashland Park before we end up at Lygnaghs for awards and further libations. Our ride will be approximately 7 miles, a little less if the weather is unfavorable.
We'll see everyone tomorrow,

For all those who want to ride, but don't have tweed, no worries, come out anyway. If you want some cheap tweed, go to the Salvation Army on north New Circle road across from Burger Shakes. They have a ton of stuff. Jackets from $5 to $8 dollars, I got some pants to turn into knickers for $4.99.

| The selection isn't as good at Goodwill, but the prices were about half that when I got mine. I think my pants were $2, vest maybe $1.50. |
