I'm sure the blue courts on campus will be fine come six, but is it possible to get things started at Coolivan earlier this afternoon? Then we could move over to the blue courts? Anyone down? |

Anyone else? Any times that work for people? I'll be able to head down there by 3:20ish, and the internet says we have until six (today's sunset o'clock) to play polo at Coolivan. |

Just as a heads up, don't depend on these courts being open anytime in the near future. they are heavily used for basketball even when it is semi-nice outside and I would wager that since classes have begun again and the Johnson center has reopened, a much closer eye is kept on them than would be when the university is closed. I would consider the one or two times we played there a fluke. The corridor between south campus and the BCTC campus is well traveled during most parts of the day, especially evening rush hour (as students walk to their cars in K-lot) and I wouldn't doubt that anyone with ties to that court for basketball would have no reservations about calling security on us. I'd suggest we suck it up and stay away from those courts until the days start to get longer or try it out a couple late night sessions only. I'm not trying to take away potential polo from anyone, I'm just trying to keep any of us from getting unwarranted tickets, and/or arrested by UK's police who may see us as trespassing and damaging UK property. UK Police don't exactly have an awesome reputation with cyclists on campus and seem to always be looking for someone or something to regulate. I know winter is boring, but let's all try and stay out of jail at least until the weather's nicer and we can all go in together. Just my two cents. _________________ pterodactyl bike gang for life! |

We played tonight for at least three hours, with only minimal foot traffic through the courts. No one else was there to use them. Granted, it was pretty cold out. I've looked, and there are no signs forbidding bikes on the courts like at Woodland's tennis courts, so UK would have to ask us to leave first. Correct me if I am wrong, but I've played twice at the blue courts and no one has yet to approach us and tell us that we are trespassing or doing anything wrong. I recall a UK cop pulling up, sitting in his car for a few minutes, then leaving. I think we, as a collective group of players, are smart enough to know that if we are told to leave, we will. Until then...
One thing though, we did get interviewed for the Kernel, and photos were taken... So that may very well be the end of playing the blue courts once that story hits! _________________ ------------[] O |

Admiral Ackbar: It's a trap!
Admiral Ackbar: You can see here, the Blue Courts orbit the structures of the UK Athletic Facilities. Although, the weapon systems on these Blue Courts are not yet operational, the Blue Courts do have a strong defense mechanism. They are protected by an energy shield which is generated from the nearby Johnson Center.
Admiral Ackbar: The shield must be deactivated, if any polo is to be played.
[the projector enlarges the Blue Courts holographic image]
Admiral Ackbar: Once the shield is down, our bikes will create a perimeter, while our polo players pedal into the superstructure of the Johnson Center and attempt to knock out the main reactor.
Admiral Ackbar: The Shield is down! Commence polo on the Blue Court's main playing surface.
Lando Calrissian: We're on our way, Red group, Gold group, all polo players follow me. Ha ha ha, I told you they'd do it!

Proposal for lexrides forum participation. If you haven't seen the star wars first trilogy you can't be any active participant. Lord of the rings doesn't count either. Sorry xtina that means you too. Maybe tim and xtina can get a group of folks together and watch it. |

well, i guess keep it up then. if we have been playing regularly, don't let me stop it by any means. hell, it's right next to my house instead of 25 mins away. did you guys really get interviewed yesterday? isn't this like the 4th time by the kernel with no story? _________________ pterodactyl bike gang for life! |

Yeah, this kid came up to us in the middle of the game and started taking notes on his note pad, taking names and asking about bike polo. He came back about 15 minutes later with a camera and a friend. They hung out a bit and talked with a few more of us. Said they wrote for the Kernel. We invited them to come to Coolavin on a regular Sunday to see what it was really like under normal circumstances... but who knows. The Kernel isn't exactly the standard of journalistic excellence. _________________ ------------[] O |

did you ask him who'd win in a wrestling match, lemmy or god? 'cause he sounds like a narc to me.
and logan, i think that's the singletary center's energy shield. although front row's rockin comb-over could easilly generate a force field 10 miles away, i believe the johnson center's specifically emanates from group jazzercise. _________________ Time moves very slowly when submerged in the jaws of a hippo. -- Hippo Survivor, Animal Planet |
