Jim Johnson <jjohnson@fhce.com> contacted me about a plan to build eight miles of mountain biking trails. KyMBA recently obtained approval to build these trails on land in Scott County. Jim is seeking volunteers. Please contact him if you are interested.

Jim asked if Lexrides would like to design, layout, and build a one mile segment. A few local groups have already committed to develop a segment. He estimated this as a twenty five man/hour project. Who is interested in helping? Would anyone like to lead this effort? Work will begin soon.

I am already committed on pedal power's portion of the trail, but if lexrides does end up taking this on and the work days don't conflict I'd be glad to come help with this one as well.

I'd be interested in helping, no way I could lead anything as I have zero experience building trails, but I can put down some work for sure.

I was at the meeting concerning this last night, everything is going to happen. KYMBA wants to know for sure if Lexrides wants to be responsible for organizing workdays for a section of trail. I will be going to a IMBA trail building school in Feb. and will be working with all groups to help build this trail. Will someone step up from this community to help organize volunteer workdays? If so let me know on here or at the shop and I will pass it on.

I think there's a common misconception out there that Lexrides is a structured group or organization, and that is why we get asked to participate in certain projects.

Lexrides.com functions as a tool for a certain segment of the bike community that is centralized here in Lexington. It's only a website; a forum, a means of distributing information and allowing others to discuss topics and to a large extent organize those interested around specific events or causes.

That last part is likely how Lexrides will play into this; allowing people to find out more about this and participate if they so choose... which is what I think is happening now.

Don't get me wrong, it's cool that they asked and were willing to let those in this community be a part of it, but I don't want those in charge of projects like this to be disappointed or feel blown off when there is not an official action from Lexrides.

I'll help in any way I can. This would nearly double our mountain biking mileage within a half-hour drive of Lex. I want track that's twisty, fast and one-way.

What are the meeting dates? I tried logging into the gotomeeting.com event, but it had expired and no date was listed..

The phone meeting was last night. I couldn't participate, but Dan and Matt did. I'm sure Jim Johnson <jjohnson@fhce.com> could answer your questions.

I understand that Lexrides isn't a structured organization. That is good from a liability perspective. However, this web site reaches a lot of people who enjoy bikes in Central KY. It doesn't appear that "Lexrides" is likely to sign up for a mile of the new trail in Scott County. Hopefully, this forum can be used by people to seek volunteers and announce work days. I don't know anything about trail design but am eager to lend a hand.

Sounds good folks, nice to hear that people are willing to help out. BB, I hear what you are saying about Lexrides not being a group with a head, what I was intending to ask is: "is there any one in this communial forum that is willing to become personally responsible to organize other individuals to get a section of trail built?" There are trail building tools and more available through KYMBA. Enough computer time, time to eat and ride bikes, it's awesome out right now Wink
