First, I am really glad your here in Lex, and here on the forum. The reason that your on a bicycle downtown is an important service to our community, and I have no problem with what you do, or how you do it.
...but...
I don't think that setting "a good example for cyclists to cars" is your job. Also, logic dictates, that if you have/use any special rights (going against traffic, getting on the sidewalk), you are not setting a good example for me to cars.
I mean no you offense, it is only logic.. if you do things that I cannot or will not do, then no one will learn anything about me by watching you, or what they learn might be flawed... I'm just sayin'...

oh yeah, FENDERS RAWK! when did everybody start taking them off?

Non taken.

What I meant to say in relation to setting a good example to vehicles was that when I'm in the street they see me stopping for lights , using signals etc. which hopefully helps all of us. What I learned over the last couple of years is that most motorist don't notice me on the sidewalks, otherwise they wouldn't be running red lights with me on the corner or almost hitting me in the crosswalks. My work bike is just a tool I need for my job.

Also, I'm checking the Stolen Bike posts regularly so the more info. the better. Thanks.

ok, I get it..

Do you guys patrol outside of downtown? I have seen bike patrols from downtown, out to Woodland Park, near campus, and you wrote about Chevy Chase. I think Woodhill could use a bike patrol.. the cruiser is such an obvious intrusion, a bike would be way more effective.

Howard, I think you and Brotherton need to have a contest to see who can retrieve the most stolen bikes in a year. I think Matt already has an impressive running tally going.

No doubt you guys have a good retrieval racket going... perhaps we should give out some award for most bikes recovered by any one person, or in your all's case, tag-team.

Matt does have some pretty great stories to go along with his bike recoveries, and I have a feeling he's too modest (or bound to some sort of disclosure etiquette) to come on here and share them all with us.
