Was there any announcement besides the logos? I was there and couldn't hear a damn thing they said. The free beer was very tasty. The logos, not so much.

I did not make it down but I heard the logo was the big announcement. This is unfortunate that they made such a hype and then the actual news was a let down not to mention the lack luster logo work.

Here is a link with some of our locals talking about the Legacy Trail.

What do folks think about the logos?

I think it doesn't matter what the logo looks like.

I hate it when companies/NPOs try to make a big deal public deal out of choosing between generic logos. It shows that they're mired in group-think and aren't focused on getting their primary function accomplished, which in this case is to build the damn trail.

I was brought in for a short while to give them some logo ideas; basically because I had already created a few promotional pieces for the design meetings earlier in the year. My logos had that same sort of funky, rough, hand-drawn look that much of my work has, and I just don't think it fit too well with what they were wanting.

I agree with Logan 100%... I could honestly care less about what the logo looks like, and I say that as a designer who gets paid to do this stuff. I just want to see a quality feature like this happen in our town. Organizations do tend to make a big deal out of things like that, when, for something like this, it really matters more to get the thing built and to focus on the impact it will have on the community. I don't think the public at large has much of a strong opinion at all on what the logo will look like.

Every time I've been involved in corporate branding the corporation has wanted to test public perception of multiple generic names and/or symbols, with the result being that the public never cares* in a statistically significant way. They care about the product or service, not the symbol.
