I sent an email this morning to Councilmembers@lfucg.com expressing concern about their tabling of the pedestrian friendly Tates Creek sidewalk project.
http://www.kentucky.com/181/story/796327.html
Tom Blues tblues@lfucg.com send the following reply:
At last night’s Council meeting, a majority of Council members voted to restore the grant acceptance ordinance to the docket and give it first reading. Second reading and a vote on whether to accept the Federal grant and move the project forward will be held at the June 11 meeting. Between now and then, it is very important that citizen proponents of the sidewalk project share their views on the issue with their Council representatives. |

Follow-up to this post and the post "Its about connectivity stupid"
So I heard that everyone (council members, staff, law people, mayor's office, etc) all were under the impression that only a person who voted to table the project would be the only one who could initiate conversation again. Well Diane Lawless researched the topic and found out that anyone could make the motion to untable but needed the votes to pass.
Well great job Diane! Now we need to have a presence at the June 11 meeting. Yes this is not directly related to bikes but it actually is. We need to make sure that our council thinks about the future of lexington and thinks about other modes of transportation besides automobiles. This includes walking and running.
Great work everyone |

Most, if not all, of the proposed sidewalk is outside the business district, so it would be legal, if not advisable, to ride your bike on it. |

True, but I think it would be a good gesture for the council to see cyclist advocating for pedestrians. |

based on what Tim just posted, anyone else here find it a bit ironic that many of the council members were confused about their own damn protocol? Again, I'm glad that at least one of them had the initiative to research the situation and bring everyone else up to speed.

Not ironic, just the usual culture of incompetence in lex govt. |
