|
|
This message is from Steve Austin via Facebook.
Thanks to Mayor Newberry and the Lexington Metropolitan Planning Organization, the Legacy Trail phases 1 and 2 - over 7 miles of trail - have been fully funded! These phases will link the Northside YMCA with the front door of the Kentucky Horse Park on Ironworks Pike. Only one street crossing will be necessary!
Phase 3 will link the Isaac Murphy Memorial Art Garden in the East End - it is now the city's top priority for funding.
This announcement today clears the way for design and construction in anticipation of a late Summer 2010 opening - plenty of time before the World Equestrian Games.
Thanks for your support - now we have a lot of work to do to make this a world class trail - look for opportunities to get involved soon and definitely tell us how you'd like to help.
For more information on this project and today's announcement, please visit our website: www.legacycenter.ning.com
Thanks,
Steve |

Excellent! This will be a great way to get out to the horsepark for a picnic, campout or horseride for those not ready to ride the road or with children.
A few questions you might or might not be able to answer Tim,
Will the horse park be facilitating any type of bike facilities?
Has the Isaac Murphy Art been funded or is there any anticipation of when work will begin? I worked to help develop an alternative masterplan for the park since the architecture firm (SCB I think) did a terrible job with theirs. But, that was two years ago and I have not heard anything since. I believe at that point they thought they had secured some funding.
Is there any chance this will be tied in with some of the other bike trails in town, namely the Town Branch? |

Yes, from my understanding that is the plan - to have these be a part of a larger network of trails.
Trail construction is supposed to start this Summer, but maybe they will hurry it along now. _________________ ------------[] O |

Any plans for air stations at either end of the trail, or maybe even in ground bicycle work stands? If people are presented the opportunity to make working on their bikes easier, I feel they will embrace cycling more deeply. |
