Ok so we talked a little last sunday about this but we never set a date, this Saturday? I have most of what we need, skilsaw, chalk line, drill. We need saw horses, a truck, and man power. If you can think of anything else please post!!! And if you can and will help, or have the tools please post.

Also we need any scrap wood that anyone has plywood, 2x4, 2x6...PLEASE let me know

so, what's the deal with this? Have we discussed how we are going to attach the boards to the fencing? Is there a plan to make it somewhat uniform all the way around? How much new wood are we planning on buying? I'm down with this, I just think we should have some sort of gameplan to make it go smoother... I can bring power tools, sawhorses, etc.

a few things:

firstly, regarding potentail days of building,
we discussed this a little last sunday and i'm sure it will be discussed tonight, but i'm thinking we should invest one sunday, beginning early, say 10am or so to the building of the boards. that way, people can have the entire saturday to do whatever they like and we could potentially have more manpower, coming out in shifts, out for the entire day on sunday.

secondly, regarding the design,
rocknroll posted a link in this same section of the forum about the crew from cleveland who built boards during a weekend. they offer a great design that is very practical for our court. as we've discussed, one foot boards along three sides of the court, held parallel to the fence and connected to the fence either by u-bolts, thick zip ties or pipe clamps and corner sections built separately and built higher than the walls, say 3 feet to allow for less wrecks and better stability.
I'm sure one of you industrious and design-minded folks may already have blueprints written up, but this project would be a grand investment, adding new levels to the game. rocknroll said we've got close to enough money to fund the project, but we need proper and efficient planning before we spend the entire day out at coolavin.

Here is some information a bunch of us figured up this past summer. This is based on the idea when we were using the whole court and not two halves. Also this is using treated plywood that would hold up based on some recommendations that we received.
I think instead of 2 ft boards along the fence we could just run 12 inch boards.

I really liked the photos from the group that chris posted. That middle section was cool.

This is just for the plywood, not the 2x4s or any other materials to connect the wood, etc.

I can't meet tonight, but I'll help. I have tools and some construction knowledge. I also have a large Ford truck we can use to get materials. The one thing that I don't have that I can see us needing is a generator.

a friend of mine owns a fencing company that specializes in horse farm fences.

my reason for posting this is that when he builds a new fenceline on a farm he has to tear down the old fence. most of the fences are fine its just that the rich farm owners want a new one.

my dad has actually bought some of the old fence planks from him for our fencline on the farm.

if needed i can give him a call to see if he has anything you guys can use. just let me know!

also, i helped him build fence for several years if i can be of any assistance.

holy shit... old creosote-coated horse fence boards would be awesome! Wouldn't need to worry about weather effecting them.

yeah they're treated and painted black. he usually does a mile or two at a time so one job would provide more than enough for what you guys need. but of course he would have to sell them so i will ask him how much each plank.
