If you are interested in going to frankfort next tuesday I'd be happy to drive folks or hell if the weather is nice we can ride there and meet with the legislators.

Check out the details at the bottom of this email from Barry Zalph

Please Help Pass Kentucky House Bill 88
Kentucky House Bill 88 would make it easier to prosecute reckless drivers who hit pedestrians and bicyclists. By making it clear that Kentucky will not tolerate reckless driving, HB 88 will make our roads safer for everyone and will encourage walking and bicycling. To pass House Bill 88, we need Rep. John Tilley, who chairs the House Judiciary Committee, to take action on the bill at the Judiciary Committee next meeting.

How You Can Help
1) Call the Legislative Comment Line at 800-372-7181 from 8 AM - 5 PM on weekdays and ask to leave a message for all members of the House Judiciary Committee, as well as House Speaker Greg Stumbo and Speaker Pro Tem Larry Clark. Your message can say, "Please hold reckless drivers accountable for hitting pedestrians and bicyclists. Urge Rep. John Tilley to post House Bill 88 to the Judiciary Committee for the committee's February 25 meeting." You can use your own words, but please ask that the Judiciary Committee act on House Bill 88 this coming week.

2) If your representative is a member of the House Judiciary Committee, call or write to her or him individually. Give your name and address and mention that you live in their district. Tell your representative that current laws do not adequately protect law-abiding bicyclists and pedestrians and urge him or her to cosponsor House Bill 88 and to urge Judiciary Committee Chairman Tilley to post the bill to the Judiciary Committee. We ask you only to contact one person on this list, and only if you live in her or his district.

Judiciary Committee members are:
John Tilley (Chairman) - Hopkinsville. District 8 (parts of Christian and Trigg Counties): (270) 881-4717 home; (270) 886-6800 work; (270) 885-7127 fax.
Joseph M. Fischer - Ft. Thomas. District 68 (part of Campbell County): (859) 781-6965 home; (513) 794-6442 work.
Darryl T. Owens - Louisville. District 43 (part of Jefferson County): (502) 584-6341 home.
Brent Yonts - Greenville. District 15 (Muhlenberg County and parts of Christian and Hopkins Counties): (270) 338-6790 home; (270) 338-0816 work; (270) 338-1639 fax.
Jesse Crenshaw - Lexington. District 77 (part of Fayette County): (859) 252-6967 home; (859) 259-1402 work; (859) 259-1441 fax.
Kelly Flood - Lexington. District 75 (part of Fayette County): (859) 221-3107 home.
Jeff Hoover - Jamestown. District 83 (Clinton and Russell Counties and part of Pulaski County): (270) 343-5588 work, (270) 343-2264 home.
Thomas Kerr - Taylor Mill. District 64 (part of Kenton County): (859) 431-2222 work; (859) 431-3463 fax; (859) 356-1344 home.
Stan Lee - Lexington. District 45 (part of Fayette County): (859) 252-2202 home; (859) 259-2927 fax.
Mary Lou Marzian - Louisville. District 34 (part of Jefferson County). (502) 451-5032 home. Thank Rep. Marzian for cosponsoring HB 88 and ask her to urge Rep. Tilley to post it to the Judiciary Committee.
Harry Moberly - Richmond. District 81 (part of Madison County). (859) 622-4997 work. (859) 624-2781 home.
Tom Riner - Louisville. District 41 (part of Jefferson County). (502) 584-3639 home. Thank Rep. Riner for cosponsoring HB 88 and ask him to urge Rep. Tilley to post it to the Judiciary Committee.
Steven Rudy - W. Paducah. District 1 (Ballard, Carlisle, Fulton, and Hickman, Counties and part of McCracken County): (270) 744-8137 home.
David Watkins - Henderson. District 11 (part of Henderson County): (270) 826-0952 home; (270) 826-3338 fax. Thank Rep. Watkins for cosponsoring HB 88 and ask him to urge Rep. Tilley to post it to the Judiciary Committee.
Robin L. Webb - Grayson. District 96 (Carter and Lewis Counties): (606) 474-5380 home.

We also would like these House Leaders to receive calls and messages from citizens in their districts:
Greg Stumbo - Prestonsburg. District 95 (part of Floyd County): (606) 886-9953 home; (502) 564-2363 in Frankfort.
Larry Clark - Louisville. District 46 (part of Jefferson County): (502) 968-3546 home; (502) 564-7520 in Frankfort.

Representatives respond best to calls from people in their own districts. Please use the Legislative Message Line (800) 372-7181 to leave messages for legislators representing districts other than your own.

3) Come to Frankfort on Tuesday Feb. 24 or Wednesday Feb. 25. If you have read this far, you qualify as a hard-core supporter of HB 88! We want your help when we go to Frankfort on Tuesday to visit with all members of the Judiciary Committee who have not yet cosponsored the bill. We plan to visit legislators from 9 AM until as late as 2 PM when they go into session. If you want to travel with us or meet us in Frankfort on Tuesday, click here for more details. On Wednesday, we will arrive by 11:30 AM to show support for HB 88 at the House Judiciary Committee meeting scheduled for Noon - 1:30 PM (approximately). If you want to join us on Wednesday, click here. We want participants from across Kentucky, to make sure that legislators know that HB 88 is not just a "Louisville" bill. Please forward this message to anyone who might want to join our citizen team working to pass this bill and improve our safety on the road!

I may be able to make this actually, my home district legislator is not involved, but Taylor Mill and Ft. Thomas are nearby and I know their communities well.

How long a ride is it to Frankfort and back?

It would be cool to roll in and ask to stash our bikes in their offices, especially when they hear how long we rode.

Fellow Lex Riders,
Any help you can lend for HB 88 as explained by policalhero Tim above will help to make our Communities safer for cycling and walking.
(Tim, I met Barry again at the Coop Sun aft again for an impromtu strategizing session).
One way to help would be to sign a petition of support.
I am going to forward a petition to Shane in the morn to post at the Wheels shop during shop hours tomorrow Mon.
I will also be sending one to Wendy and Mark at Pedal the Planet to see if they can collect some signatures as well.
The petitions can be faxed back to Barry's Bicycling for Louisville offices at 1-502-582-1824. Fax in hi-res if possible so signatures, addresses, etc. of signees is legible.
Barry asked further that we particularly send Lex-area Judiciary Cmte members Kelly Flood, Jesse Crenshaw, and Stan Lee messages supporting the legislation.
Thanks everybody, and.
as always, thanks for your help Tim
