Tuesday January 13, 2009
6:00 PM – 7:30 PM
North Lexington Family YMCA
381 West Loudon Avenue, Lexington
Light food and refreshments – children welcome
The preliminary plans for the Legacy Trail are ready. You are invited to attend an open house on Tuesday, January 13th at the North Lexington Family YMCA on Loudon Avenue. Trail planners and city officials will be on hand to explain ideas, answer questions, and to listen to you. The design will cover linkages from the planned Isaac Murphy Memorial Art Garden in the East, to downtown, to the Town Branch Trail in the west, all the way to the Kentucky Horse Park. Art, education, history, culture, and environment: all will be discussed.
Help us make the Legacy Trail one of Lexington’s greatest assets – we need you!

Roscoe and I and maybe Matt Brotherton are going to meet at the Bell House at around 5:30 - 5:40 and ride out there if anyone wants to join.
If you get there late and don't see us, then we've already rolled out. _________________ ------------[] O |

For those of us who were unable to attend the ride and the meeting can someone post some details.
Specifically the status of the trail and what the next steps are? |

In all honesty, and I think those who also attended can attest to this - I'm not sure the setting was ideal for either the meeting, or the crowd that showed up. First off, it was hard to hear the two main speakers because of the echo effect in the gymnasium and secondly, the large-screen display that they were projecting the slideshow on was way too small for people to see.
After the rather short talks, the crowd wanted a Q & A, but the speakers seemed as if they weren't actually expecting that... and rather they intended for people to walk around to the individual tables and ask their questions there.
There were actual maps of the trail route, but other than that, mostly what was presented was concept sketches of trail features; sculptures, trail markers, educational features, lighting and paving options, etc. It was a lot to look at, but personally I left wondering, "ok, so what is the next step? How much funding is there to do what is being presented, and if not, where is that money going to come from to insure that this will be completed as visualized and not just halfway built?"
Granted, it was a Design Review... so that's what the focus was - to discuss design ideas already conceived, and to get ideas for how to make it better. _________________ ------------[] O |
