It's cause people keep signing up just so they can ask you all to find their stolen bikes for them. _________________ Father Charles Goes Down And Ends Battle |

or because they're looking for a good deal on a very specific, $200 wheelset... just in case someone has one laying around. _________________ ------------[] O |

Come for the stolen bike retrieval, stay for the beer and sexual harassment.

So I was watching Quadrophenia last night and it got me thinking: between us and BCC who would be the mods and who the rockers?
I mean on the one hand, we're dirtier, but we're also more stylish. They wear tighter clothes, but we're far cooler.

I was thinking scooters are more like single speeds because there's no shifting, but then I remembered that early Vespas were manual.
And there are chopper motorcycles with no front brakes.
But I wanna be a Mod dammit! |

yes, and after attending the opening of the Vespa Store last week, I can tell you that you are right on the money with that assumption. _________________ ------------[] O |

How was the place? I haven't been yet.
Is it all new ones that look like every other scooter out there or are there any vintage? |

I'm no expert on scooters, but I'm pretty sure there are no "vintage" Vespas there. Also since I'm no scooter expert, all the models they had there looked pretty damn cool to me.
But back to your question; Ok, I can understand how a new Cooper Mini would be an updated, modern take on a classic style... but has scooter technology changed so much that they couldn't make a 2008 Vespa that looked pretty much exactly like one from say, the 1960s? There's not that many amenities to cram into a scooter is there? I would think that it would be fairly easy to market, but maybe it has to look modern in order to justify the 2008 price tag. _________________ ------------[] O |

Vespas have changed a bit since the old ones, but Genuine is still making px150 clones from the original toolings in India. Not much by means of new technology though. I love my Stella none the less. |

They'd make them like the old ones if they could. There's all sorts of safety and emissions requirements now that didn't exist then. Everything from the placement of headlights and turn signals to the engine and transmission design on the old ones wouldn't be legal to sell in the US new nowadays.
Which of these is a vespa and which is a yamaha?
See what I mean?
