Not that there's any real competition for the hearts and minds of Lexington's cycling community, since both seem to cater to vastly different segments and sensibilities of those who ride bikes in this town...
but I thought it might be fun to mention the odd fact that currently, both forums have the same number of members: 175.
Who will be the first to beat the tie?
Oh! The suspense of it all! _________________ ------------[] O |

Regardless of the numbers, they'll be quite smug that collectively their shit weighs less than ours. |

it's weird that I always find it harder to get a fixie rider to acknowledge me when I'm out on my bike that it is to get a bcc type rider to wave. Must be because my bike has gears and brakes and I'm often wearing spandex, but I've seen politicalhero out in spandex too.
the bcc board is way dead though, this board is way more interesting. Anyone going to the red mile show tonight? There is a weird rumor that neutral milk hotel is going to be there. _________________ Father Charles Goes Down And Ends Battle

true. I was probably carrying the weight equivalent of a Cervélo in my bag during the alleycat the other night. _________________ ------------[] O |

yes! Although it is a longshot, there are rumors from various reputable sources that Jeff Mangum could possibly make an appearance tonight at the Lexington show. Even if, it wouldn't be the entire 8+ person ensemble from the days of NMH... probably just a guitar and a saw. He played some NMH songs in Columbus a few days ago. Show is free... door at 7:30, show at 8:30.
about the Lexrides type rider vs. BCC type rider... I guess it's easy to generalize one as a spandex-wearing, upper-middle-class weekend warrior with impeccable road manners, and the other a rude, drunken, reckless bastard with no social skills. _________________ ------------[] O |

I have always hated the possibility of being thought of as a weekend-warrior. _________________ Father Charles Goes Down And Ends Battle |

Damn that bus I got thrown under hurt a little.:)
I think all bike folks are a little less than friendly. I can be on the rural roads, downtown, or rocking around my neighborhood and always give a "howdy" and wave but I don't get anything in return very often.
Yup, my name is Tim Buckingham, I wear spandex and approve this message! |

It is strange, especially compared to how almost every complete stranger on a motorcycle that passes me in the opposite direction (when I'm on a motorcycle) will wave.
I wonder how much of the difference is because there's almost no chance of having to follow up the wave on a motorcycle with any actual conversation. |

hah, on the conversation.
I hate that aspect of riding my motorcycle, it's a pain in the ass to wave to everyone. I don't really like waving to people on bikes either if I'm somewhere where there are tons of people on bikes, like cherokee park. Out near boonesboro or something though, I'll totally nod my head to you or say whats up if I'm passing. _________________ Father Charles Goes Down And Ends Battle |
