since it seems that most of us have been preferring the half-court games lately, we're left with one whole side of Coolavin just sitting there, when we could be playing two games simultaneously, using the entire area.

I realize that more often than not, there are either not enough people, mallets or bikes to play another full game on that other half... or sometimes the games just go on too long and playing only one half allows people to switch out and rest between games.

I would like to propose that the other court be used for beginner games, or for those who might be interested in learning to play but are a bit shy or intimidated by the play level of the regular games. Maybe for folks who haven't played in a while and want to ease back into it, or folks who just want to work on their skills during a more laid-back game.

I think if we had a couple more bikes to go around, and a few more mallets we could start doing this on a weekly basis if others were into the idea. I just want to see more people come out, and know there are those out there who are interested but may not feel comfortable with it... I'd really like to help nudge those folks out of the sidelines.

my theory on the "community bike" or "community mallet" idea is that, while beneficial in the short term, it allows people to eventually take advantage or not take responsibility or ownership of those things when they need repair or replacing.

There are still a few people who play who do not have their own bikes or their own mallets... I think this should change. If there are bikes out there to be donated, if someone who wanted them and needed them wanted to take personal responsibility for them, I think that would be the ideal situation.

speaking of mallets... thanks to a tip from Alex I scored four ski poles this afternoon. I plan on building them up into full mallets with some of the extra heads I've been collecting lately.

So, I now have a few mallets if anyone is interested in getting one.

being a beginner myself i think this is a great idea. I have a few friends that would be willing to participate in a beginner level game.

Not sure what is going to go down tomorrow for our regular Wednesday night games... there was talk of starting to have Wed games indoors at Dog Town since it will be getting dark soon, but I'm not sure if that will be this week or not.

Sunday games, as always, will be at Coolavin Park.

We had a pretty poor turnout last night with only 4 bikes, only 3 of them polo worthy and 5 people. I know most people have jobs, but last night's weather was beautiful. I'm not quite sure how to try and get attendance up, but maybe more advertising and moving some games indoors so we can play longer isn't a bad idea.

I mean, if you're a regular player, you should have a polo bike, and bring it with you.
