Hi bikesters:

Thanks for diggin on my Laptop Lounge tunes at both the fountain downtown and also at Molly's later. Extra special thanks to Turner for possibly creating in me a need to drink Jameson's in the future.

I made a few little vids of you cuties that are here: http://www.youtube.com/mrtoastey

Super fun event! Congrats and thanks to the organizers and the big turnout!

my pleasure. Sometimes it's hard to convince people, here in the land of fine Kentucky bourbons (and fine they are!) that high quality Irish Whiskey is something to indulge in from time to time.

I just want to give a big thanks to all the folks here who supported and participated in the prom. The biking spirit is alive and energetic in Lex town and this board is the catalyst for getting the good news out. I've met a bunch of cool people here and this city would be dim hole without lexrides.com...so word up prom kittens!

So the turnout. I was expecting around 50 people, but I printed 100 manifests and spoke cards; we had nothing left. I'm waiting for final attendance numbers from the Living Arts & Science Center, and I should have them after their board meeting tomorrow. It appears to be a robust turnout.

The Center is positively pleased with the support and in fact they're a little bit stunned by the interest in biking events. Since they're a well-established non-profit that provides a host of learning programs for kids, they have a tremendous impact in the community. I'd expect more bike-themed events in their future programming and that's awesome. Folks here undoubtedly will provide the expertise and energy when they need to construct another bike event.

The local businesses that hosted the stops also need to be recognized. Most were not only a checkpoint, but also donated cash to the Center and gave prizes as well. Isle of You, CD Central, The Hive, January, and Molly Brooke's Irish Bar were the stops. Equally generous with cash support for the Center were the Morris Book Shop, Pedal the Planet, and Street Scene. Cricket Press printed the poster and outrageGIS mapping gave map prizes. Without this local biz enthusiasm for biking, the prom would not have happened...so visit, call, google, and support your homegrown peeps.

A number of individuals made this prom extra special. The mickster, aka Laptop Lounge Mick Jeffries, is a true pro when it came to providing dj music. Mick solved all the problems and made it happen period. Logan, aka elzie5000, was the first to jump in wholeheartedly and was invaluable in offering a range of support. Bryan, aka brokebike, gave us the photos you'll enjoy here and and a depth of experience and knowledge that made this event real (especially after the thankful shot of irish whiskey during the afterparty). Sara, aka quinnbeast and brokebike's better half, made the disco ball a much livelier stop. Tim, aka politicalhero, was the Straight Talk Express that gave genesis to bike prom idea and sweetly chased his one-year old baby around the disco ball stop. Last but not least was Alex, aka alex, the most handsome, one-handed cooler-carrying, cumberbund-wearing, salsa-making gentleman on the field.

So after looking at the photo pool, all I can say is sweet! brokebike can wield that camera as finely as his polo stick. Lori has the advantage of a setting sun flooding her shop with great shadows.

There's been some internal comments on correctly attributing names to photos, and I hope people here will correct those...but I need to identify a wayward caption. Below appears to be a shot of Hap and son Simon braving a trip through the curtain fountain
but no. instead it was a result of the little known fact that if a bike did exactly 6.66 spins around the disco ball fountain, the riders popped out of the curtain fountain teleported.

largest alleycat participation to date = 89 riders (Halloween '07).

Congrats in pulling in another huge bike event, Boyd! That's a lot of folks on bikes!

Promotion, no matter how under-the-radar, is key.
