|
|
I was asked by the 2nd Sunday planning folks if there is something that lexrides would want to "put on" during the second sunday event. I believe there will be some road closures that would be off the 2nd sunday route that we could organize polo on.
Any other ideas? or should we just let this be what it will be? |

i guess skid or footdown competitions, but that isnt much of a draw without an alleycat. on top of that, you probably will have kids on bikes and rollerblades going all over the place. |

I agree. I think there will be kids everywhere so we wont be able to do anything too crazy. How about everyone coming out on their funny bikes? _________________ The sound of a car door opening in front of you is similar to the sound of a gun being cocked. ~Amy Webster |

When they close the road it will also open up some spots for us to enjoy. For instance since Limestone will be closed, when it crosses maxwell, maxwell will be closed to Upper on the westside and to MLK on the east side. This would give us space if we wanted to play polo, have a bike clinic, etc.
We can basically put on whatever we want, the 2nd sunday group is asking people to come up with ideas and to plan it. This is what we tried to do with bike lex and will try to do next year. It is easier to have people come up with ideas and have those people make it happen instead of waiting for a small group of people organizing the event to pull everything together.
So, what is lex rides going to do? |

All I need is two goals and a ball on the ground. Who else is willing to play anywhere, anytime?

Tim, do you think we could have our own "Lexrides.com Intersection" of sorts?
Like, do you think the Second Sunday folks would allow us to pick one of the main intersections, like what you were talking about.. and on the east side we could do some sort of bike clinic, or have members bring tools and stands to give basic tune-ups, mechanical tips, etc. and on the west side have demonstration polo games?
We could also set up some ramps and just have Kevin jump over shit for four hours _________________ ------------[] O |

I'll need to check out the length of the route and scope which would be best. So, what are the streets again? Euclid at Limestone to Third St.?
I thought that's what I had heard, but that's just based on hearsay... here we are a month out from the event and I have no idea where you would go to get the full disclosure and info about the event as this doesn;t give much at all in terms of useful, up-to-date info. _________________ ------------[] O |

Limestone from Euclid to Forth.
I have not been in any of the meetings so this is all I know.
It terms of the lack of communication, this is what happens when someone thinks they have a good idea but then fail to execute it. I think it is a lack of leadership that Jay publicized this event and then threw it in people's lap (without funding) and said make it happen. |

Here are some more details that I just received from the Mayor's Bike Task Force.
1. Second Sundays: Councilman Jay McChord's efforts to bring a ciclovia style event to Kentucky is going great. The current plan is to shut down Limestone from Avenue of Champions through 4th Street on Sunday October 12th. They are going to have activity centers/booths at Government center & Transy soccer fields. There is also going to be a group/critical mass ride at 4 down paris pike. They have a website www.2ndsundayky.com. The next planning meeting (all are invited to attend) is scheduled for this Thursday, the 11th, at 5:30pm on the forth floor of the downtown Library in conference room B. |
