LFUCG parks is conducting public meetings this week that will influence the direction of our parks department for the next few years.
We have heard from several people (including folks
within Parks) that if we want bike facilities to be on their radar we
need to be present. There are meetings tonight, tomorrow and
Wednesday. Three potential talking points:
1. Bike/pedestrian loop at Jacobson Park
2. Veteran's park bike concentration.
--a gentleman within parks told me that he wanted Veteran's to be
known as the biking park. Great. He said something about a BMX track.
Great. What about a Velodrome? Even better. Let's suggest it.
3. Mountain bike trail inclusion at new Briar Hill Park.
This is just a start. I am sure you all have additional ideas that
would make this city an even better place to ride a bike. There are multiple meetings, so lets use the forum to coordinate our presence at as many of the meetings as possible. (I will be at the Meadowthorpe meeting on Tuesday)

I was at the tates creek meeting tonight and we covered 1 and 2 thoroughly. I don't think anyone brought up point #3 though. There were 5 or 6 of us there just for cycling, a larger group than the horse group, audubon society, soccer people, playgrounds, and skatepark people, who were there also. From what I hear, the trail re-design work at veteran's is in the bag. _________________ Father Charles Goes Down And Ends Battle |

You think we can get enough of us roughnecks together to petition Parks for lighting and electric at Coolavin?

i think you should have someone show up at a meeting and mention it so that it can at least be on their radar. It may make the park more safe after hours, so maybe they would be into the idea.
forgot to mention that the idea of making the backside of Jacobson park a one way and close off the other lane as a paved multi-use path was also proposed. Sounds like a good idea to me and would be easy to do but I've heard that parks and rec aren't big on the idea.
some lady from the tennis association was there bitching about the upkeep of the local tennis courts and I wanted to tell her about how desperate you guys were for a polo court that you've been doing all the maintenance yourself, as if that would make her apprecaite what they've already got _________________ Father Charles Goes Down And Ends Battle |

Velodrome better than a bmx track? I don't know about that..but it'd be kind of cool to have one I guess. I've been looking for an excuse to build up a 24" bmx bike. Now looks like I might have one. |

the dude pitching the bmx idea had his shit together with a power point and media packet, he also had two representatives from the nbl or whatever the bmx sanctioning body is. They pay for everything except for land and dirt so if the city would give them land and dirt they would do the rest. _________________ Father Charles Goes Down And Ends Battle |
