I just got word from my security company that The Dame is being demolished today. Is that even possible with the court case going on as we speak?

Surely, they wouldn't move demolition directly to The Dame. What an asshole move that would be.

well, I think it would fit right in with their MO, which seems to say "Fuck you Lexington, we're doing this with or without you".

Honestly, if you put yourself in their shoes, demoing the Dame would be like stealing the other team's flag. Destroy the building that has become the rallying cry for the entire movement to save the block, and you effectively kill the motivation to continue fighting.

I think even more so than the Rosenberg building, if the Dame and Busters buildings were the last two standing, there would be resistance to the very end.

On my way back from lunch 20 minutes ago there was an environmental something or other truck and crew with hoses going into the back door of Busters. Probably for asbestos testing/removal.

I'm no demolition expert, but it seems like it would be difficult to knock down the dame and leave the buildings on either side standing.

actually, you probably can . the buildings brickwork is probably coursed up against the neighboring structures with a very small gap of maybe an inch or two to allow for spalling and moisture control between the buildings.

im willing to bet they are going directly for the dame next. to try and finish the resisting parties.

Email from the Farmer's Market Manager

July 23, 2008

I am sure you are all as anxious to know the status of our market location on Vine Street as our farmers, so I will cut to the chase. At this point, and for the foreseeable future, we will be operating, as usual, in the public right-of-way on Vine Street. A small number of our farmers partially set up on private property near the demolition site and they will likely be the first to be affected. I will know more as the demolition unfolds this week, and will let you know if something major changes before Saturday. Should we need to relocate a large number of farmers at any time this season, our immediate plan is to move down Vine Street toward the Financial Center and onto Mill Street as needed. Again, I hope to be able to notify our customers in advance, and will use as many mediums as possible to do so.



Now, on to what makes us the Lexington Farmers' Market, our product. Summer crops are nearing peak production and the harvests are increasing each week. From fresh fruits and vegetables, to cut flowers, honey, meat and dairy, we have the quality products you need for the most delicious and nutritious meals you can make. Also, with such an abundance at your disposal, try canning or freezing your favorite market items so that you can enjoy the taste of summer all year long.



Finally, thanks to the many customers that have inquired about our Sunday market in Hamburg, it is set to open this weekend. We will be in the same location as last year (West of the Hamburg Meier near Circuit City and Half-Price Books) and the hours have changed to 10am to 2pm. Please stop by this smaller version of our market and see what our farmers have to offer.

The facades, windows and entrances of Busters and the Dame were blown out yesterday. They look like caves now.

we went down last night and took pictures of the bombed out facades of the buildings. i had never thought much about busters, in terms of beauty, but when the siding was torn of, the beauty of the former building just struck me. there were mortar and pestle rock carvings above the hat shop and the white brick and design of the mission building was amazing. it also blew me away how many cool light fixtures were still hanging in the buildings. it seems as thought more could have been salvaged.

i have lived all of my life in lexington and felt silly never noticing all of the beautiful buidlings downtown.

does anyone know if the pawn shop is still in operation? it appeared so but in a news article it said the former pawn shop.
