so here's an idea I was thinking about this morning that could be tested at an upcoming alleycat or bike gathering, and if all goes well, we could expand upon it when Bike Lexington 2009 rolls around. I've enjoyed the checkpoint photos that Jakub has taken during a few of the alleycats, and we've also discussed a project similar to the KC Urban Cyclist project. Perhaps this could be a looser combination of the two...
maybe some of you who are more proficient with a camera than I am could provide some assistance and suggestions for this, but I think it would be cool to set up a "bike photo booth" to take goofy shots and portraits of people with their bikes. Ideally, it would be cool to have some sort of makeshift "studio", or mobile backdrop that would be large enough to capture each subject and their bikes, or even a group of several bikes and people. Not sure if a simple tripod and decent flash would cut it, or if we'd need a small strobe and/or lighting setup. Maybe that's thinking about it too much... at any rate, I think it would be something that would be fun for people to participate in - and we could devote a Flickr set or group to it so that folks could download their own images if they wanted.
Perhaps it could be free, or even a donation to help fund future bike events or the lexrides.com site. Most importantly, it would be a nice documentation of our bike scene at a particular point in time. _________________ ------------[] O |

I've got some friends that made a mobile photo booth (in Louisville), it isn't big enough to fit bikes in so they're blueprint wouldn't work. One awesome thing though, is that it's free at their parties, but then they rent it out for wedding's and other events around town and more than make up for their costs. They got their blueprints of the internet somewhere _________________ Father Charles Goes Down And Ends Battle |

I've been wanting to do the same thing for quite a while. Had it all ready to go for the second warehouse race that ended up not happening.
I've got all the cameras/backdrops/portable strobes, we just need a time and place. |

well... there we have it, then! I'd be happy to help out any way I can if we can pull this together at an event soon. _________________ ------------[] O |

What events do we have coming up after the 4th?
My setup needs about 10 ft square feet of floor and an electrical outlet. |

I don't know if it would help at all or not, but Cricket Press has a festival tent that is 10' x 10' square. It's more substantial than one of those "E-Z-ups"; less like a tent and more like a little portable room that could be configured with however many open or closed sides you think you'd need. _________________ ------------[] O |

That could be perfect as a sun-shade/"don't look at me french kiss my headset" privacy thing. |

i have a 750 watt power inverter i use for camping and tailgating out of town concerts and events that we could hook up to an auto battery, which should run for 4 hours without a recharge. |

why don't we make this an event?
A big bike and beer and finishes somewhere with the photo booth and the VIP bike porn tent. |

whoah! Then you could post it on the interweb and charge bike-dorks and fixie-snobs to watch it. Great idea. _________________ Father Charles Goes Down And Ends Battle |

I thought about doing the same thing, but as a means to document bike ownership. It would make it easier to track down stolen bikes if everybody had a good picture of their missing bike to spread around, show to bike shop employees, etc. So this project could serve a practical purpose, too. |

yes! It'll be great for this purpose. Now, those of us with more bikes than we have room to deal with will just have to figure out how to get all our bikes together in one spot! _________________ ------------[] O |
