In today's HL Business section there was a short reference to Al's Bar - http://www.kentucky.com/106/story/441159.html

Quote:
... the "epicenter of democracy right now seems to be at Al's Bar" where the regular guys and gals hang out. Democracy is "messy," she says, but it works and makes a difference.

Kudos to Al's and the northend.

That looks like a quote from Sylvia Lovely, from the Ky League of Cities. She's a great influence in promoting civic and cultural issues here. She occasionally has audio pieces on WUKY.

And wow, she's got a relevant and nice website: http://www.newcities.org/

well, Democracy in Lexington sure as hell doesn't hang out along Main Street anymore... I guess it's headed Northward.
