So a friend just told me that a new scooter shop is opening on southland drive across the street from the Coop.

All you moped and scooter folks should check it out when it opens. It feels good to have something besides another prayer store or dollar shop

You didn't want a 6th music equipment store?

It'll be interesting to see what they carry/how they position themselves. There's definitely room in the market for another scooter shop, considering how people are freaking out over gas prices.

Scooters aren't always the most logical solution either economically* or environmentally**, but they're at least showing that people are reconsidering their transportation options. Or realizing that there are options. Plus they're fun.

*Read an article last week about a couple in Atlanta "saving on gas" by spending over $6,000 on two new Vespas. Even if they got 5X the MPG of the SUVs that were sitting in the driveway behind them they'd have to transfer over 2,000 miles onto the scooters before they broke even.

**The additional emissions from burning oil in the kind of 2-stroke engines in most scooters/mopeds offsets much of the environmental benefit of using less gas.

very true... especially in third worlds, where scooters and mopeds are everywhere.

Atlanta has a pretty substantial "scooter culture". Probably because it totally sucks to drive a car or ride a bike there, and their public transportation is shit for a city that really should know better.

If being an American for 24 years has taught me one thing, it's if I have a problem, I can always SPEND MONEY to fix it!
