You tell him, Fearless Leader!
Hey, it's probably too late for most people to see this, but I heard that the architecture student exhibit at Victorian Square features some kind of design for what was described as a "cool bike center." _________________ http://www.lexingtonbikeracecalendar.com |

ok, when i get the change to scale them down and put them on the web ill post.
the idea was creating a place for a sort of bikestation (thats what i called it anyway) to accomodate widespread bicycle commuting in downtown lexington. since the city is laid out radially, most commutes are less than 30 minutes, making it easy to do. so i am proposing a place where bikes could be stored and repaired while you work, with locker rooms, showers, a cafe and some other stuff. the design isnt very far along yet, since weve only been working on them for 2 or 3 weeks, but hopefully a complete building will be ready december 7th.
another girl in the class also proposed an alternative bike route system that had an isolated path away from the street that actually rose to 20+ feet over the city.
the whole exhibition was part of a studio to encourage development downtown by showing new ideas in places where they otherwise arent [parking lots and garages, vacant/dillapidated buildings, and places where arts and entertainment could flourish].
im not sure how open victorian square will leave it, but its staying up for a month or two. |

jkizzle-
I was able to check it out this afternoon while we were setting up for the Art Market at Victorian Square - pretty cool. I'd love to see something like this incorporated into the downtown development, or at least some sort of storage locker setup.
I've seen the Chicago bike locker and it's amazing. It has showers, too!
The trails along Lakeshore Drive / Lake Michigan are really great, and they have a little repair booth setup about mid-way going north to south along the lake. |

The stuff in the exhibit is really cool, Alex.
GF and I spent a good 15 minutes just looking at the mollusk print.
