Story in today's HL - http://www.kentucky.com/254/story/418282.html

Bike lanes are mentioned as one of the steps being used to offset our carbon footprint.

how do you combat this

GLOBAL WARMING AND "CARBON FOOTPRINTS" IS AN ABSOLUTE HOAX PERPERTRATED BY ELITIST,ARROGANT, CONDESCENDING AND ABSOLUTELY IGNORANT LIBERAL ENVIRONMENTALIST. IT IS NOTHING BUT A SCHEME TO DESTROY A CAPITOLISTIC SYSTEM AND REDISTRIBUTE WEALTH. THESE SAME PEOPLE ARE THE VERY REASON THAT WE ARE PAYING APP. $4.OO A GAL. FOR GAS. I REFUSE TO ALLOW THESE PEOPLE TO CAUSE ME TO CHANGE MY LIFESTYLE IN ANY WAY. LET THEM WALK AND EAT HAY. NO; THAT WOULDNT WORK SINCE THEY MAY CAUSE THEM TO BELCH. ONWARD AND UPWARD.

it makes no sense and we all know that but it is how people think.

Inconsistent studies, reported in a shallow manner, just reinforce attitudes like those of Mr Crazy-All-Caps.

Interesting article from England about a program to get parents to pick their young children up from school in dutch cargo bikes instead of SUVs:

I'd probably favor the Brookings study over popular science article. Read some of kentucky.com readers' reaction comments.

The only fuss I can find in the brookings study is that they factored traffic on I-75/I-64. A bit unfair I think. But the fact that lex is considerably sprawled, we use cheap coal, and live where it's cold and hot, well that's makes us bigfoot. Surprising though that we're the biggest. Means that we have plenty of room for improvement.
