|
|
Over the past day or so, there has been some discussion via private email conversations about whether or not there is enough interest, motivation and leadership to get the monthly Critical Mass rides going again here in Lexington.
As many of you may already know, Lexington's Critical Mass began modestly 3-4 years ago with a handful of local bike advocates, and very slowly evolved into some pretty impressive turnouts of roughly 70-75 riders during the Spring of this year. Then, in April the rides took a turn for the worse...
I'll refrain from getting into all of that here - although I'm sure it will come out with further discussion, so feel free to talk about it here.
I mostly wanted to open up the discussion to see if anyone had any thoughts or suggestions for a possible revival of the monthly CM rides... |

it would be great as long as it sought to promote bike advacy and not bike angst _________________ Albert Einstein trembled when he found out time was water. Seeping through the rafters to put out this burning world. |

I think the crit mass needs a revival, if we can figure some shit out. |

Winter might be a good time to restart Critical Mass. It would give us time to hash out the rules/focus/whatever of the rides before the fair weather riders come out. |

I'm heading to Woodland Park at the usual time this Friday (5:30pm). The big Critical Mass web site still shows Lexington as having a ride at 5:30 on the last Friday of the month.
If anybody else shows up, we'll do it.
I doubt there will be enough people to cause any problems like those a few months ago.
Lights might be a good idea. |

here's the plan: we buy those sockem bopper things and just let 'em duke it out.
actually, i won't be able to go to the CM today, i'll be in frankfort, but despite the cold, i'm down to start it again.
well, why the hell not? |

Three of us showed up last Friday. I'm not sure three riders qualify as a Critical Mass, but we rode a few miles anyway. Traffic was light for a Friday. |

perhaps you could just ride your bike every day to and from your daily activity's and that will teach you what you can and can't do with traffic...nevermind the dumb ass that drives the suv with the marine bumper sticker as he tries to get as close as he can without clipping you...(you ride a bike you know who i am talking bout) then we can talk about this "touchy" subject. besides the hipster side of me just wants to say that crit. mass is so pass'e... _________________ "if it ain't broke don't fix it" |
