Though not a bike article it is worth taking notice of this article in today’s HL. Our new governor reverses our last stellar leader’s funding cuts and restores funding levels for “Coal Education” to the tune of $400,000. WTF!

though i in know way support mining or coal at all, im guessing it is a way beshear sees to boost the eastern part of the states economy.

on second thought though, im not sure how PSA's could boost economy.

This guy is a fucking idiot... coming out of the general assembly with a 39% approval rating is not great leadership. Fuck, if I remember correctly Feltcher was always at least 40% or above.

WTF, the Dems and the House are just in shambles...they can't even pass their own legislation in the House they control.

Hold on, it is going to be a crazy ride!

reading the comments on any H-L article is like watching the very worst of Jerry Springer.

it's usually best to just avoid it altogether.

Are we at all surprised? Remember the previous administration throwing money to attract a coal-to-liquid facility that never came? And how we are doing the same, again, with a coal-to-diesel plant?

Or the money that we throw out to reclaim mountaintop removal and strip mine sites by coal companies that declare "bankruptcy" or are dissolved, with little to no way to contact the "owner"? The owner, in this case, being a larger coal company -- many that operate today are "independent" companies controlled by say... Massey.

Coal is not as cheap as one thinks, especially when you add in reclamation and socio-economic costs.

Coal-to-liquid / Coal-to diesel fuel is all the same thing.

Regardless, neither of the Presidential Candidates are any better on this "new technology." Call it clean all you want but the social cost of this "cheap" fuel is crazy.

Fletcher was bad but Gov. B is getting worse and worse. He would not come out of his office when we had 1,200 citizens on the capitol steps on Feb 14, but he will pander to the crowd when ICG brings paid miners and their families to the capitol.

His approval is as low as Fletcher's ever was, his own party does not support his platform, his own party can't pass legislation amongst themselves. All the republicans just need to sit back and let the Dems destroy themselves.

Today's Editorial
http://www.kentucky.com/591/story/411092.html It is horrible this money is even being given to the Coal Ass. but in such a "horrific budget year" they can still give $400K...this is not even a tax incentive, but actual transfer of fund.

Yesterday Business
http://www.kentucky.com/103/story/410055.html

$625,000 in funds plus $319m in tax incentives equals a price tag of almost $4,000,000 for each of the 80 jobs.

Enough of the rant
