|
|
A few folks gather late last week to discuss entering into the Holiday Parade. We all know these things usually are just for politicians and big people in little cars but we are trying to change that.
Thanks to folks around town, we now have a trailer that we can pull by bike.
Additionally, LFUCG has give us 200 bike lights to pass out along the route.
The parade is Saturday December 1st starting at 530 and ends at the light up lexington event. The route is short spanning just from midland to the court house.
Ideas for decorations, etc included: Chinese Dragon tandem bike, xtracycles hauling giant presents or people dressed as presents, a yellow bike dance troop (thanks Natasha), tall bikes, mini bikes, bikes with christmas lights, etc. Do anything you want just to show the crowd how fun it is to ride a bike.
We have space donated to work on bikes, floats, costumes, etc the day of the parade. Building will begin at 11 am.
Right now the theme for the float is a beach bonfire, with fire pit and smoores.
Anyone and everyone is encouraged to participate. All those who rode in the 4th of July parade had a great time and really gave folks something fun to look at.
I hope this does not interfere with the Mary Elizabeth alley cat. |

few questions:
- where is the meeting / float building space?
- is it meeting at 11am on the day of the parade?
another fun idea might be a roving "polo game"... not really, but a few people on bikes with mallets passing a ball back and forth as the parade progresses. |

yeah, I think the alleycat was going to be then, because it is the weekend before dead week for students. I guess I should wait to have the weekend after finals...do you think it will be to cold by then and will there be anykind of turn out? |

Yes the build will be at 11 am on the day of the parade. That way we can build, eat, drink be merry and then jump in line for the parade.
The Build space is located at 333 Midland Place at the intersection of Midland Ave and Winchester Rd.
Polo would be a great idea. track stands will be good for this parade also...silly ass slow moving parades
ME: we had I believe 38 people race the Heartbreaker with a distance of 18-26 in on Feb 11. In fact there were a lot of new folks there. |

The build space will be the parking lot at 333 Midland Place. (hey, thanks for editing your post and making me look dumb!)
Deluxe accommodations will include: restrooms for those who self-identify as male and/or female, coffee, kerosene heater, repair stand, random winos asking what you are doing and the smell of roasting peanut butter lingering in the cold winter air.
Note: if you are coming from Midland Ave or 3rd, you have to enter via Nelson (see red line on map).
Note #2: at some point Midland Ave will be closed to traffic to allow parade participants to line up, but that probably won't be until mid afternoon, like 3-ish. |

Lots of things can be done day-of, but this would be as good a place as any for people to announce their intentions as to which of our crazy ideas they'll be helping blight the parade with.
