|
|
the BCC forums - do they clean it up every so often and delete the stragglers who haven't posted in a while, or did they re-do it and make everyone sign up again?
Or, do you have to be a BCC member to post?
reason I ask, I've signed up a few times there to make general announcements about our bike events and maybe lurk a bit, but I always end up finding myself deleted.
I know that Grant, Rich and myself used to have accounts there, but not anymore. |

oh well. BCC members can still join here and take part in our stuff for a yearly fee of $0.
your hard-earned $0 goes towards zero% insurance to cover your ass in case Farmer Brown's cow gets out and accidentally hits you on your group ride, but it will get you unlimited fun on your bike and shared beers from whoever brought the cooler.
oh, and we have no full kits to offer, but I'll screen you a t-shirt for like, $5. |

I dunno the answers to any of those questions, but I'll find out.
(Oh, and the insurance is liability stuff in case some non-cyclist decides to sue somebody, not health insurance stuff.) _________________ http://www.lexingtonbikeracecalendar.com |

Okeydoke, here's the word from Nedim, the BCC site administrator, computer guru, and general all around swell guy:
Quote: | In the old days, BCC was strict on the forum policies - you had to be a member to post. Later on that seemed to be changed to Admin approval registrations...
Now it is completely open to anyone - members and non members. People won't get deleted anymore. I couldn't get the old member database to transfer so I just gave it a clean start. Old one was full of spammer accounts anyways... |

thanks for looking into that, Christopher... I was just curious before I try to make a new account again. I wasn't going to bother if I had to be a paid member.
Makes sense about the spammer accounts and starting over. Spammers can make being a forum admin kind of a pain in the ass sometimes. Greg and I have to collectively delete about 100 fake users each week in order to keep it from getting out of control. |

I had to drop phpBB because of that. There was no good way to rid the spammers, and the Capicha (letters in the graphic) have become vulnerable by the spam bots. I saw a really cute way to go around this: basically, it had to do something with cats and numbers, but it's not available for this forum package.
There are other ways around it, but it's really annoying to code with this package. _________________ Sherman Cahal | Cincy Rides |

yeah, the uk cycling team forum had to be taken down due to all of the porn spam. it was something like 100 messages a day, and nobody really moderated it. |
