Anyone have any advice for storing multiple bikes in an apartment/otherwise small space? I was contemplating some sort of system that had the bikes hanging by the front wheel but that seems to have the potential to cause damage. Right now I'm keeping the excess in a broken down van in the backyard that I use as a shed (which is of course way cooler) but I'd like have them be more accessible. |

hanging seems to be the best way to get them up and out of the way. I hang mine vertically from hooks that I've screwed into the ceiling, and arrange the bikes in a staggered pattern to fit them in tighter.
what do you mean by "potential to cause damage" when you hang them from the wheel? To the wall/ceiling, or the bike? |

I meant damage to the bikes, especially less used and heavier bikes. Would the strain on the wheel be too much? |

its not too much for the bike. bikes are durable enough to handle what we put them through on the roads and can support their own weight especially without us on them. he's right... the tension in a properly-tuned wheel is A LOT.
wheels can take that force, no problem. |

if bike can support our fat asses on them, they can support the 15-30 pounds they weigh like everyone has said. look at nashbar.com as well, they have several storage racks. |

This is how we hang our bikes.
We mounted a piece of wood onto the wall and screwed hooks into the wood. It works well. |
