damn... I hate to hear stuff like that, but it happens more than anyone will ever know.
I'm not the kind of guy who tells people they should wear helmets, and I still take offense when I meet those types of preachy people who look down on you when you don't wear one... but, I will say that after seeing my wife's helmet split open after her impact with a car, I now wear mine pretty much every time I hop on the bike. |

| I got hit (again) about 2 weeks ago by a cab driver who didn't completely stop at a stop sign. Luckily I was riding uphill and didn't have much speed built up. She t-boned me on my right side (my sexy side). She got out crying but I was just worried about my bike (mid 80's blue soma nicknamed "UAV" for urban assault vehicle) luckily it wasn't damaged. A witness stopped and went off on the cab driver so I really didn't have to say a word. Which was good because I couldn't speak, out of pure shock that she actually stopped to see if I was okay. |

That is really, really disheartening.
Hit & Run drivers have a special place reserved for them in hell. That's why I have no problem now being preachy about wearing a helmet...because these people will run you over and not give two thoughts about the damage they've caused. They only care about themselves and not getting caught. I never wore a helmet because I doubted my own biking skills. I wore it because of the drivers around me. It makes me sad that people like hit&run drivers exist...but they do.
