Just came across these lines in Wendell Berry's story, "That Distant Land." Cutting tobacco might be pretty close to the opposite of riding bikes, but I think you'll see why I thought to post it here:

"What every tobacco cutting needs," Art Rowanberry said, "is a bunch of eighteen-year-old boys wanting to show how fast they are."

He was right, but we did not have them. We were not living in a time that was going to furnish many such boys for such work. Except for Mattie and Jack, who were fourteen and eleven, and would have liked to show how fast they were, if they had been fast, we were all old enough to be resigned to the speed we could stand.
