OK so who would be interested in forming a team for the bed races this year?

Here is some more information
Thursday, April 10, 2008
Belle Breezing Bed Race
http://www.bestofthebluegrass.org/events.asp

In honor of one of Lexington’s more illustrious historical figures, the Belle Breezing Bed Race will be held on Thursday night on Short Street between Broadway and Jefferson at 6:00 pm. Companies, schools, organizations and individuals will enter their own specially decorated beds which will be raced in heats in a course along Short Street. Heat winners will race each other until a grand prize winner can be declared and awards presented. Hundreds of people will be lining the streets enjoying the antics of the racers and their beds. Each team must have a person in the bed, and 4 “pushers” of the bed. Mid-course the referee will require all racers to change position, including a change of pajamas for the racer in the bed. Hilarity is sure to ensue! And the press is sure to cover this wild and wacky event.

The application form has no restriction on wheel size....aerospokes would be fast and stylish at the same time.

Interesting. The rules say no motors may be used and all power must come from the human team members. Would bicycle gears would be considered "mechanical propulsion"?

Our team could win easily if the bed was suspended between two tandem bikes.

This sounds like fun.
Who wants to help start scavaging for wheels and other random parts to construct a land-speed-record-breaking bed?

The bed race was interesting. Five teams entered, three survived. It was a half block down and back race.

Things learned for our entry next year:

-smaller turning radius wins races
-light weight & strong pushers, not the other way around
-emphasize the historical connection to prostitution for the crowd favorite category

I give you my concept for the 2009 race...

I think we should also integrate an actual sex act into our 2009 entry, while racing. It will add to the authenticity and integrity of the theme.

Any volunteers?

hahah i like the sex act idea as well...i was thinking the person in the bed should be throwing out condoms or something. but then condoms would promote safe sex and take away from the team name. hahaha

depending on the length of the race, stamina could be a limiting factor.

The races were all under 60 seconds.

Except for that one where both beds fell to pieces and the teams had to drag them the rest of the way.
