Fellow Riders,
The following is a message from Lex. Cycling Advocate Bill Fortune RE a strategy confab to prepare for an April 17th meeting Bill, Griff Baute and others have organized with Mayor Jim Gray and Vice-Mayor Linda Gorton:

To: Central Kentucky cyclists
From: Bill Fortune
Re: Important Bike meeting
Village Host Pizza, 431 Old Vine St. Lexington, Thursday April 5, 6-9.

Thanks to Griff Baute and Bill Gorton, Lexington’s Mayor and Vice-Mayor have agreed to meet with a small representative contingent of the central Kentucky cycling community on April 17. The meeting on April 5 is to gather input from a wide spectrum of cyclists to inform those who’ll meet with the Mayor and Vice-Mayor two weeks later. Let’s make sure all groups are represented – if you’re a member of a group and can’t come, ask someone to come in your place that can speak for the group.

Please come. I’ll report briefly on the history of the Mayors Bike Task Force and the June 2011 “where do we go from here” meeting, and then solicit your ideas – those that would cost money, and those that would not cost (much) money. I’ll share with you any proposed agenda for the April 17 meeting, and solicit your comments.

I’ll summarize the April 5 meeting in a written report for the use of those planning to meet with Jim Gray and Linda Gorton. (I’ll be out of town on April 17 – on a bike trip!).

Tho Bill F. will be out of town, Bill Gorton (no relation to Linda) Chair for the KY Bicycling and Bikeways Commission will head the Group meeting with the Mayor and Vice Mayor. If you are interested and able, consider coming out to the Village Host for a beer and discussions about how we can continue to move forward in making the City and the area more bike friendly.

As always, thanks for your interest,
Mike G
