|
|
OK Folks, May is steamrolling around the corner and as we all know it is also National Bike Month. Over the last 4-5 years LFUCG has tried hard to make bike month a bigger deal here in Lexington. Starting with the 10 mile family fun ride it has expanded to hold crit races, bike sculptures, bike-in movies, commuter challenge, bike mish mash, etc.
All of these extra events have been pulled together by individuals and or groups of folks. So what do you want to plan for bike month?
Right now some alley cat/ lex rides folks are planning a May 2 "Oaks Day Alley Cat," A bike progressive dinner, a pub crawl, and a bike art show.
What do you want to put on? I have heard a velo swap, bike in movies, chariot races, polo tournament, etc. If you have an idea and the energy to put on an event, post it to this list and we can get it printed in the calendars, on the posters, etc.
Think about what our scene is missing and make it happen.
Cheers

I was thinking of putting on the race the weekend following the Derby, May 10/11th possibly. I'm due to put one on, and this also coincides with my graduation from UK, so I figure this would be a good occasion.
We could do a race every week of May, how about that? |

All the ideas are great. just start planning and let me know so we can get it on the calendar.
For the swap meet it could happen anytime. I know folks talked about doing it after the friday races but right now it looks like the group planning those races are going to do something different on that night and not necessarily the style the race was last year. |

pretty much...safety pup and friends don't want to play with us.
Basically the folks pulling together the races for that weekend are trying to capitalize on it being a free weekend in the "race circuit" calendar and it has the opportunity to bring folks from the tri state area to lexington to race. I believe the initial plans are for time trial races on friday, crit saturday like usual, and then another type of races on sunday.
I think it really sucks because the time trial is not really spectator friendly and public friendly, where the races last year on friday were geared towards being more inclusive and community building.
Thank being said, you bet your sweet ass I will register for the time trail... I can't decide if I am gonna race the xtracycle or the mini bike....what are you gonna race?
This is why I think we need to make sure we have a large public presence on the calendar for May. Hey if folks want to pull a weekly alley cat together then I say go for it.
Do they make zip wheels for my folding bike? |
