somethings sounds like its cracking when im pedaling in the bottom bracket area. when i toy with the pedals, they rock just a little bit, and make the noise...

any ideas?

hopefully racing on it tomorrow doesnt put me facefirst in the asphalt or ruin my frame...

oh, and theres no cracks in the frame, or anything like that.

seriously though... when you say "toy with the pedals", do you mean pushing them laterally (side to side), or simply rotating the cranks around?

I'd say check the following as a start:

- make sure both sides of your BB are secure in the shell (that they haven't started to thread their way out somehow)

- make sure your crank arms are tightened onto the BB spindle

- make sure your pedals are snugly threaded into the crank arms

- check to see if your chain needs cleaning; dirty winter chains can make all kinds of horrible cracking and crunching noises.

by toy i mean try to make them rock a bit, and that produces the exact noise. the chain is very lubed and clean, and the pedals are snug. the guys at wilcat wheels made sure the cranks were tightened into the spindle for me (they were), but didnt have the right wrench to tighten the bb, at least i think that was the issue, im no bike mechanic just yet...

gonna swing by pedal power this week and see if they can help/ put a new bb in.

they said it was hollow or something i didnt really understand what he was saying.

its an isus bb, on a 2005 raleigh road bike, and they didnt have, or couldnt find the tool. oh well, i dont mind supporting pedal power.

I may have had a similar problem. Every time I would put force on the right pedal, like when going uphill, it would make a really loud creaking noise in my BB. I took it in to Schellers and they it might just be dirty, so he took the shell out and lubed it up and it stopped making the noise for about a week. when it started happening again he suggested that, since the frame was aluminum, it may just be where things are flexing under stress.

it was the bottom bracket, pedal power replaced it, and now its fine.
