It's probably much easier for their club to have it in a central campus location, I'll just lure curious boys and girls to the courts with promises of candy and funny stories. |
Not using bourbon as bait to play polo?
Also, I think having a monthly Newbie night is a fantastic idea. We should have it on a night of regular polo, but designate a court as the introduction court. I think we should also provide mallets and bikes for Newbie night. I have a spare polo bike that's quite the bruiser and would work perfectly for it.
I really think it should be an event where we flyer for it pretty hard and get some other advertising, like a WRFL PSA or something. We could have a few experienced polo players meet up at a certain spot and then have the newbs meet them and they all ride as a group to the courts.
Definitely down for Newbie nights. |

Apparently the consensus for newbie night was the last sunday of the month. It would have been the first, but we were going to miss a lot of our core in September, so this was easier. We can adjust it later. I'm all about flyering. Flyers in businesses....flyers on bikes.....bake sales.
I still don't understand the WRFL advertisement. Has that ever attracted anyone?
I spoke to Alice with the roller derby girls and she said they'd be totally down for us having half time exhibitions......next season.
I think we should tell the soccer players that come down they have to try it. |

I don't know if the PSAs on WRFL ever attract anybody, but it is free advertising. |

Fall is coming up, which means it's time for another velo swap. We've typically had the Fall swap at the courts. Instead of a two's tournament coinciding, why don't we offer up a day of newbie playing and instruction... both courts available so more seasoned players and have ones side, and newbies, or those who are just wanting some fun, relaxed games can play on the other court. No soccer... all polo.
By the way, are the soccer guys there every day? I don't think there's been a day yet that I haven't seen them out there. _________________ ------------[] O |

Turner, I like your idea. Then we can transition to the easy-to-remember "first sunday of the month is new player day!"
As for the soccer players, judging from the text messages I get, they're out playing AT LEAST 5 days a week. |

I'm gonna go tag some bikes on campus with lexrides.com and polo times. Once I do this, it means we will actually have to show up for polo when we say, otherwise newbies will come out and not be impressed.
Also, this should attract some attention to our polo neighborhood:
