Check out the email below:
Good morning Broke Spoke folk,

The Broke Spoke Community Bike Shop is preparing to move! We are incredibly grateful for the support and hospitality offered by our current landlord (Lester Miller), and truth be told, Broke Spoke might still just be a good idea and not a real, functioning component of our community if it were not for his urgings and generous offering of space. However, we have quickly outgrown this space and are constrained in meeting our mission because of this.

We have an opportunity to move into a LARGE and OPEN warehouse space on the corner of 6th and Bellaire (beside Coolalvin Park) just a couple blocks from our current location. We will be one of the first tenants in a new development called the Breadbox, which will also include a brewery and taproom (http://www.westsixth.com/)and much much more. More info on the new project and our new home: http://www.breadboxlex.com/.

The space is huge and it sounds like we are going to have some very interesting neighbors (indoor roller derby, vertical farming, etc ) The renovations and clean-up needed to make the space ready for the Broke Spoke will require a lot of time and effort but we feel the trade-offs are going to be well worth it. One of the biggest benefits (besides the 2,500 sq ft) is in the near future Broke Spoke will sit just a few feet from the Legacy Trail/Coolivan Park Trail.

We will definitely be in our current location through the end of the 2011 but we may begin work on the new space earlier than that.

The shop has been a huge success and all the credit goes to you all, the Volunteers and Members who have supported the shop in various ways to keep the doors open. From fundraising to volunteer shifts; Broke Spoke is 100% a community effort and the shop is already realizing the potential impact it has on the surrounding community.

In the near future we will have a "show-and-tell" down at the new space to let folks check it out, meet the landlords, and start to brainstorm how to make the space function and be fun.

The Broke Spoke
