after a successful summer break friendlies, im curious to know what the status is regarding resurfacing the courts and maintenance in general. we definitely could have swept up a little before gameplay began sunday and i noticed in general how haggard things are looking.
id also like to discuss the locks for the gates and people's thoughts about the soccer and now the roller hockey people using the courts. jessi talked with some of the soccer guys on saturday and they seemed dismayed that they couldnt play. i definitely understand their plight to a certain extent but we need to convey that the courts are designated for polo and thus they have to sit out if there is an event or need for both courts.
thoughts?

Three more questions:

When we did Midwests, I thought I heard a figure floating around about what resurfacing would cost, does anybody have and idea what that was? If we can get a figure, that can give us a goal to reach.

Since we have a bid in for Ladies' Army, maybe that can give us a deadline?

And finally, since we have around 50 people from three different sports using the same space, would the city be willing to prioritize this if we could wrangle everyone together to raise funds to cut the city's cost?

To the soccer guys that felt dismayed, maybe we could do better to let them know in advance that we need the courts for a weekend. I think sharing the courts is the right thing to do and would help us in the long run with getting our facilities improved.

my understanding is that tiff and turner had a sit-down with rudy and some other bigwigs from parks and rec and the cost for a total, professional resurfacing is around $19,000 (or $391,495,000 vietnamese dong).
i agree that sharing is the right thing to do and it will probably give us more priority within the budget, im just worried about losing access to the courts when we have a big event because we have to share. sorry if that sounds selfish

Resurfacing alone will cost roughly $20K-$30K based on all the estimates that have been given to Rudy. This doesn't even figure into account the fact that to resurface the entire courts, the fencing and our court walls would need to be removed in order to do it correctly. No paving company is going to even consider doing the work with all of that stuff in place, so it is much more involved than simply putting down a new surface, even if we somehow had the funds to do so.

The soccer guys are playing on courts that we have seniority on. They know our days that we play. If they want to establish any sort of clout on our courts, then they need to organize, set a schedule and stick to it, and then communicate with us the days they will be playing and if they need the courts for any special events. Ideally, their schedule would not overlap ours, especially on Sundays and Wednesdays. This is the responsible, adult way to go about it.

We also need to try to stick to our Wednesday and Sunday playing schedule. I think this playing whenever we want, like the soccer guys do, has definitely hurt our turnouts on those days, and now that we are sharing with another group, doing that sort of thing is only going to cause more tension.

As for court maintenance, we need more people to step up and take ownership of keeping things looking nice. It's very easy for it to look like shit quickly if no one cares how it looks around there, and we end up neglecting the space that has been given to us.

i agree completely with you turner and also still owe you $62.50
my concern is not that we cant work out an arrangement with the soccer folks, but in the future are we going to have to ask permission from p&r whenever we have an event thats not on the standard days?
id also like to address how we as a club are communicating with the soccer club because there seems to be some misunderstandings, not to mention our club should be compensated for the nets and potentially the additional wear on the courts. it seems like we are just interacting on the days when both groups are present and maybe we should have a more formalized discussion with representatives from both groups.
bear in mind, this is all suggested, and a lot of this may have already transpired without my knowlegde
