Working on a bike lex map that shows bike lanes, shared-use trails, park paths, and the like. Got a first draft up and curious what else folks like to see on the map. http://www.bikelex.com
Nov, 2011: updated to include the urban service area and a few new lanes and trails: http://www.bikelex.com/map/front

So good. This is really cool, Boyd!
One thing I see right off that can be added: There's a bike lane on Alumni starting at Chinoe and it goes to Tates Creek. From there, crossing TC heading northwest, once you pass the church there is a separate shared-use path on the stadium side that goes to the stadium lots. _________________ ------------[] O |

Thanks Brian. There's a few bike lanes and shoulders I need to add and that's an older one. I'm working to get UK's paths on the map, too.
Should I put proposed/funded routes, paths, and lanes on the map? |

I recall seeing a map in LFUCG's labyrinth of websites one day that had all the proposed/funded/planned paths, does anyone have that link directly? I can try to dig it up when I get some spare time if no one else knows where it is... |

|
|
Riders - Between what Roller has developed and those sources linked by danws, we have a couple of pretty good sources for mapping bike friendly streets, trails etc.
A little consolidation would be helpful. A couple of groups could help advocate with our new Mayor Jim Gray, specifically the Mayor's Bicycle Task Force (chaired by Wendy Trimble) and the Bike/Ped Advosory Cmte (a sub-committee of the Lex MPO Transportation Planning Cmte.) to consolidate the mapping for updated print and on-line versions.
If you are interested in contributing to a consolidation effort, I know the MBTF/Wendy would welcome your input and the BPAC is always looking for motivated volunteers.
We are facilitating moves forward simply by holding dialogues such as these on the Lex Rides forum.
Thanks for your interest...
Mike

Hello y'all. I just saw this thread about maps, so I joined the forum to share a blog I've started about good bike routes through Lexington. I've made just a few maps so far, but more are coming. I'd also like to post maps made by others.
Check it out: http://bikelexenjoy.blogspot.com/ |

Is that map connected at all to the bike map meeting the city is having tomorrow? |

Sorta. I talked with Mike about the committee's goal and I suggested I would try to print a copy for tomorrow. This online version is a back-up in case I can't be there. The map tries to document the designated bike lanes and other pedestrian travel routes available. It is not complete, by far, but it's an attempt to combine the city's and UK's lanes and paths and also highlight our greenspace pedestrian opportunities. |

Want to say thanks to Boyd and everyone who assisted at the Bike/Ped Advisory Cmte Fri.
The objective was to ID Lex streets to create a subway-style map of bikable streets into the City and UK - generally.
We have a map compiled from 4 pie-shaped City sectors marked up by attendees and, as valuable, some insights into how to share what is developing.
This site and thread will continue to play an important role but how to further share the info - like mobile apps mapping - was also discussed.
Action items for the next month:
We will have the mapping scanned (.jpeg and .pdf) and linked here - it is rough at this point.
Anyone willing to help write up a list of the street names per marked up routes? We can then begin linking the routes to the mapping.
Please respond to me if you want to help - thanks,
Rte recommendations or suggestions on the efforts welcome here, of course.
See you at the BS B-day Bash
Mike
