From the picture I thought it was going to be some kind of suspension seat post generator, but the details on the linked page say it would just sit there and generate electricity from the intertia of the bike stopping, starting and bouncing. Seems like you'd generate more electricity in 30 seconds on a trainer hooked to a generator than in an hour with this thing. Totally not a viable product.

Why doesn't anyone make a trainer that charges batteries? I've seen a bunch of different ones cobbled together, but none from major manufacturers. I'd love to be able to plug my cell phone, ipod, camera, etc in and use my effort for something productive, not just waste it as heat.

i think if green = gadgets then green ≠ sustainable

one of the beautiful things about a hand-built steel bike is that it can be used for 30+ years before wearing out, maybe longer. if a gadget can work for 30+ years, then i'd be all about it, and i'd say it was pretty "green"

oh, and that's one ugly-stick of a seatpost and a horrid saddle too. gadgets are supposed to look sexy and be mounted on sexy things. sheesh. don't they know anything?
