This sad news was in the paper yesterday:

Photo caption: Ross Compton and others involved with The Ice House met Monday with officials who closed the club, above, because of safety and zoning issues. _________________ "The path of least resistance is what makes the river crooked!” - Utah Phillips

we'll see what happens with this. I think Ross kind of expected this to happen sooner or later (as mentioned in the article). The hopeful thing is that the owner seems to support Ross' intentions with the space, so we'll see if they can come up with any solutions that could revive the space.
It is a shame that the future of venues in Lexington appears bleak right now. Lexington needs spaces for the kinds of events Ross has been organizing for the past decade, but unfortunately something always seems to come along to shut it down or cause him to move his efforts elsewhere.
Spaces for the kinds of underground events that Ross specializes in are absolutely essential for promoting any sort of significant culture / scene in Lexington - even more than it needs any spot for headlining or even moderately popular acts to play. Ross makes this stuff happen and there's a huge void to fill when those things are gone. _________________ ------------[] O |

this happens everywhere, because people just dont follow the right protocol to getting things done right. Anyone from cincinnati on here probably remembers the void and the warner house, both underground venues that eventually got shut down.
It takes a landlord who is into the cause the tennant is trying to promote, and an organizer who is willing to pay the bills and work at the grassroots level. granted that is rare, but thats sort of what we are getting from barry on manchester street, he is awesome, and is even letting us throw the beaux arts ball on manchester again at the pepper distillery for free, which saves us about 5 grand that instead goes to the charites.
he, like the ice house has also allowed stuff such as wrfl shows to go on there for free, and is really supportive of the artistic community.
lexington is not lost yet. |

The ice house has what you are saying it takes - I guess no one was fully surprised by this happening. Let's hope the city will work with the landlord and Ross to enable this to continue to be the unique venue it has become. Hopefully the support of Jim Gray, the interest of the landlord and the track record of Ross will see this issue through to a positive outcome for Lex. _________________ "The path of least resistance is what makes the river crooked!” - Utah Phillips |

yeah, don't count the Ice House out yet. Ross has a knack for rolling with the punches when it comes to stuff like this, because he's been doing his thing way back before there was any talk of shit happening on Manchester. In fact, Ross was putting on amazing live shows and art events out of a tiny storage unit on Manchester over 10 years ago (anyone else here remember 37c?) _________________ ------------[] O |

I love how Soda Pop is just casually napping on the steps in that photo... I never noticed her when that photo originally ran in the paper months ago. _________________ ------------[] O |
