Traffic at the corner of Main Street and Midland Avenue was obstructed Monday after a bicyclist was apparently hit by a truck.

At about 9:20 a.m., police closed Main Street as emergency medical workers took the bicyclist, who appeared to have injuries to his left leg. Police did not release the identity of the bicyclist.

Regina Shepherd, who witnessed the crash, said the bicycle's front wheel was in the roadway as if it was going to cross Main Street.

The truck, a black Dodge Ram towing a Bobcat loader, turned off of Midland onto Main Street. The trailer holding the loader struck the front wheel of the bicycle, said Shepherd, 50.

"The truck had the right of way," she said.

Lexington police Sgt. Jack Roberts said officers were still investigating, but he did not expect any charges against the driver.

The bike rider's injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, Roberts said. However, "It was a very severe leg injury," he said.

One lane of traffic on Main Street was reopened around 9:45 a.m.

Does this mean the bicyclist was coming from the sidewalk when he/she was hit?

Sounds like he was on the sidewalk, waiting for the 'walk' signal, hanging his front wheel out into the street and got clipped by the trailer.

Hate for anyone to get injured, but you have to pay attention to your surroundings better than that (if that is how it happened).

I find it hideously offensive that the Herald-Leader made the main focus of their headline that traffic was blocked on Main St.
A person was seriously injured.... If they were anyone but a cyclist, that would have been the headline...

It should also be pointed out that it happened within sight of the Herald Leader building, right around the time people were showing up for work this morning. Thus the issue* was traffic impact, not safety or injury, etc.
