Did he hurt his achilles from riding? That's one of the most common cycling-related injuries when you ride long distances without building up / training / properly stretching the right muscles. I did that a couple years ago on an overnight trip and my leg was fucked up for days... it sucks and is very painful. _________________ ------------[] O |

When my achilles got all fucked up, I had to stay off the bike for about 3 weeks until the swelling and pain went away... which was way worse than the pain itself. I'm still kinda concerned about it whenever I ride long distances. If it gets so bad that you tear that tendon and it needs to be surgically reattached, it's no minor recovery... I've heard of some people taking years to get back to 100%. _________________ ------------[] O |

Plus you don't want to end up with drop foot. Without the tendon you would have no way to lift and flex the foot |
