May 23rd marked the loss of Utah Phillips. Though not directly related to biking he was Master of the call to direct action which I think most of us here can appreciate. He held our own Wendell Berry in high regard. If you don't know of him he is worth exploring.
One of my favorite quotes/stories from him was when he spoke the following line during a speech to high school students...they apparently had to drag him from the stage to cut him off.
Quote: | Children, be worried when they call you America's most valuable natural resource. Have you seen what they've done to the other natural resources? |

my favorite spoken word stuff of utah phillips is his two cds with ani difranco. my fellow workers is the name of one of them. they are such beautifully told lessons from history, and ones that you have likely not heard before. i have a tattoo planned from one of his stories. |
