Who wants to do the St Patrick's Day parade? It is Saturday, March 15th at 1:00pm.

The details and forms and whatnot are online here:
http://www.lexingtonstpatsparade.org/testparade/
Entry is free for non-political, non-commercial groups. Doesn't say if you have to be a registered NPO.

It starts at the same place the Christmas parade did, and we can use my parking lot again to stage.

So I don't know who the fearless leader is but I just want to make sure folks are not waiting around on me to do something I am not.
I am going to be out of town so I am not going to be able to attend, plan or register for the parade.
The registration information is below so someone feel free to take the initiative and do it up right.

yeah, who started this thread anyways?

disclaimer:
(although, I'm not really sure if the "fearless leader" was directed at Tim, or me - please keep in mind that I am only a forum admin, and not the go-to guy for all that goes on here. I encourage anyone who sees an opportunity to get a bike event together, and hope that people feel empowered to take initiative and add to the community-building here as it concerns the local bike scene. Thanks!)

I was getting ready to register us, just wanted to make sure nobody else had done it already.

Filling out the papers now. Will send them in tomorrow.

Edit: we should try to have this much fun:

Entry form has been sent.

We're signed up as LexRides, a not-for-profit group of decorated bikes and green clad folks, promoting human powered transportation alternatives and temperance in the spirit of fun and St Pat's day.

There's a waiver for participants to sign on the day of the parade. Barring any problems from the Irish Society we should be good to go.

As soon as I get confirmation from them I'll post up on the google group and repost the map to the pre-stage-pre-party area.

We are officially in the parade! Just got the confirmation email.

But it won't work without YOU! And everyone you know who rides a bike.
We need to have as many people representing bike culture in Lexington as possible in the parade.

Details:
Saturday, March 15th.

We line up on Midland Ave no later than 12:30pm for the parade start at 1:00.

Parade starts on Midland, goes down Main, north on Mill then east on Short St. Google says that's about a mile, depending on where the end-point is.

We can pre-stage* in the same place we did for the Christmas Parade, the parking lot at 333 Midland Place starting at 10am.

Rules:
-There will be an insurance waiver form for people to sign before the parade starts.
-Don't throw things at the crowd. If we end up with any give-away items, they must be handed, not thrown.
-Any signs or banners must be "positive in nature".

Questions/needs/plans:
-Do we want to do another float, like we had in the Christmas parade, or just people on bikes, like the 4th of July?
-If we do the float, I'll provide a sound system and battery inverter.
-If we do the float, volunteers will be needed to decorate as well as find another trailer and bikes to pull it with.
-With or without the float, we should have some kind of banner or sign to identify ourselves, right? Suggestions? Volunteers?
-Green costumes and decorated bikes are a definite. You all impressed me with what you did at Christmas.
-Tallbikes and at least one 36" unicycle. I'm just sayin'.
-Afterparty: Al's Lynagh's? Celito Lindo? Busters?

Parade Route:

PreStage Area:

*eat, drink, talk shit, build stuff, etc.

Lynagh's would be the obvious choice, but have you ever tried to get in there on St. Patty's Day? Sheesh...

Pretty much what I was thinking.
I'm leaning towards Busters, since it is closest and I'm planning on being on the Seussbike.

last year busters was open all day because of all the St. Pats stuff going on downtown. Actually, that is where the alley cat finished last year.
