I have not seen Stine's bill yet but here is one that is worth looking at.

I am not very active in Rails to Trails but at first read this sounds like a bill that could really help RtT. Anyone know if this is a good one or not? |

I've been an advocate of the RT from Lexington to Ashland via C&O's former Lexington Sub., but it may be too late in some areas. Travel down the back roads in Rowan County, for example, where trailers and junk litter the former right-of-way. Or in other areas, where the line has been washed out. I suppose that if they do build the trail in this area, it would follow the existing road via widened shoulders, as probably buying out the trailers would be too expensive.
The tunnels near Grayson are still in excellent shape, albeit flooded. Draining them wouldn't be difficult.
Locally... I wouldn't mind more bike lanes if there is room. I had hopes last summer when they were doing a load of paving around the city. Tates Creek had an edge line that was about 4 feet from the curb, but it wasn't signed or marked as a bike lane! I suspect that it was for the same reason that the bike lanes were removed from Newtown Pike -- the concrete "gutter" was in too rough of a shape to be used as part of the bike lane.
Winchester Road? Enough room for a lane. If they narrowed that extremely wide center lane, more room could be allocated for cyclists. _________________ Sherman Cahal | Cincy Rides |
